  • will we get shafted to saturday night week one of the finals again

just looking at the likely finals lineups for week 1

    Roosters vs Sharks
    Broncos vs Cowboys
    Bulldogs vs Dragons
    Storm vs Vermin

under the AFL system which the NRL now employs the highest ranking team gets to play on the Friday night to give the biggest advantage in terms of recovery time for later in the finals series.

would also be a nice advantage for us against the Sharks if we play on Friday night having a 7 day break and the Sharks having a 5 day turnaround from a sunday afternoon game this weekend.

why is it I get the feeling that channel 9 will push to get the Broncos vs Cowboys match on Friday night.

The Channel 9 Broncos do have a lock on Fridays.

That gives us an extra day to freshen up and prepare.

I hope there's no double header.

I hope that doesn't happen. But end of the day, no Queensland equals no NRL. That is where the money is. Lets hope the NRL still has a shred on integrity.

Wouldn't be too fussed with a Saturday game, means an extra day rest coming out of the Souths game & if we lose and have a short turn around to a Friday night game then we only have ourselves to blame.

Win and we're getting 12-14 days recovery, an extra day on top of that doesn't matter too much.

Who cares. Will win when ever or who ever we play.

Personally, and i'm sure many others, would prefer Saturday night as it saves all the rushing around after work and Saturday night will probably draw a bigger crowd.

This has to be one of the "better" conspiracy theories.

All Queensland games won't rate in Sydney and that is where the majority of viewers are. We were shafted last year for Souths and would again if they were challenging, however now that they are busted it won't happen.

                  It's not a conspiracy theory, it's just a reality.

I was more alluding to the suggestion that us playing on Saturday 1st week of the finals is some sort attempt to shaft us, which imo is a load of crap. Actually the draw this year, particularly around origin time, has been fairly kind to us.

But yes, the world is against us.

The premise is not that we'll get shafted because everyone is against us but that it will be a side-effect of Channel 9's love for Brisbane which is frankly a reality.... they are quite positively open about it.

Ch9 will no doubt put the Broncos on Friday night, regardless of whether they finish first or second.

There is a theory that if Saints play Dogs they will put that on Friday.

so what is the point of finishing as high up on the ladder as possible, whoever finishes top should play Friday night regardless, it allows for the most recovery time for the rest of the final series.

if we get moved to either Saturday night/sunday and the worst happens and we lose, we then have a shorter turnaround for week 2 of the finals and actually lose any advantage of finishing top of the ladder.
