Wing was disappointing but not even close.
Fletch was no big loss as we had plenty of cover for him.
Cleal was my favourite player but was nowhere near Roger.
Walker was also my favourite player but he was a nutcase.
Blacklock was a second grader.
Hannant......good one.

Young impressionable Roger's manager just happens to be the NZ Warriors football mngr and also manages a stable of NZ rugby players. As we all know Roger starred at schoolboy rugby and has always entertained the dream of one day playing for the All Blacks. His move to the Warriors is just another step closer to realising that dream.
We wish him well.

Sam "Victa" Moa's delicate little pass to put Sonny Bill Williams through for a break that finished in the great try for Shaun Kenny-Dowall is possibly one of the greatest moments in a grand final that is overlooked. Sonny gets the credit for that try but it would not have happened without Sam Moa. I do not recall the involvement that Sonny had in the Michael "Jenko" Jennings try however.
I also must agree that I do not believe that any of those players listed were of a particular great loss. I was very fond of Bryan "Fletch" Fletcher but our forward pack arguably improved in his absence and Craig "Wingy" Wing had served nearly 10 seasons with us and was not the player he once was. The loss that truly hurt was Brad "Freddy" Fittler's retirement and it is debatable that the sacking of Todd "TC" Carney could be a distant second.

But then circumstances conspired against us. Tomkins realising he was a fraud and packing it in before we re-signed Roger killed us. If that hadn't happened there is no doubt we would have had him for at least another three years.
The manager was the Worriers football manager years ago. I totally understand why he would want his superstar close in NZ rather than have him at the mercy of every other manager here - which is probably why he reneged on an agreement to give us last say (not that we would have met the offer anyway).
I don't wish him well after this season. I don't want him to get injured but I want him to go backwards as a player.Last edited by Johnny Tobin; 09-03-2015, 10:45 AM.

Carney in 2011 was like SBW last season. The only difference was that SBW had a better calibre of player around him.
Both of them are cases of what could have been.

I will say this if anyone at our club thought RTS didnt have it in him is on the border of stupidity .
Who ever created the doubt should be punted.
In the long run RTS may not go forwards and be who he should .Not doubting his ability to excel but if you end up at a basket case club you go nowhere.
Unless they get a top nothch coaching staff and admin they will amount to nothing ..and on the other hand the way the warriors offload RTS may score a zillion tries next year -remains to be seen. Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe

Im not so sure about Carney Whilst on face value he appeared dissapointing in 2011 Ive seen our 2011 highlights reel more than a few times it is amazing for a player who supposedly had a poor season that he was a constant feature in the highlights reel by either scoring or setting up triesI respect all our moderators here. Past present and even future. Always have done and always will do a wonderful job.

Had we signed him on fullback money and had he not succeeded there we would have had to play him on the wing on fullback money and the effect on the cap would have been severe. That's why they held back to see how he went. And that was understandable because when he was given a taste of fullback last season (chopping and changing) he hardly set the world on fire.

it wasn't some delicate little pass. It was a normal pass, that wasn't expect, on our 30m line, that caught the defence off guard. That, plus, and the biggest plus, is that SBW ran a perfect line, outside in, and that gave Turtlneck no chance to tackle him.
Later in the game, SBW made a break that led to the field pos'n that led to the Jennings try.

Not then anyway.
Now it's looking like the big unders.
If we had the opportunity I think we would try to match/beat it now. But we would have to shift some players to do it even if we wanted to.
That's what the cap is all about. Punishing success. Rewarding mediocrity.
