Talking about MMM I dislike their RL caller, is it Maroon, a real Souths man and hates the Roosters. But I was at a function on Sat where he was the MC and he was quite good actually.
At that same function it was interesting to here Maguire talk about the next TV rights deal saying that the NRL should have some power to get control back from the broadcasters

When ever Ray Warren talks footy, I have zero interest. He is also 10 years past his best as a commentator. That deadset legends show is painful to listen to, when he dribbles on. Channel 9 need him to keep calling, but there is rubbish behind him.

Maroon is a cousin of the great Darren Maroon who played for Souths (and had a season with the Roosters). I use to work with Darren's brother and they never forgave him for switching to the Roosters lol.. They also grew up next door to Darryl Trindall, he and his family were absolutely mad.

Rabs consistently gets the players names wrong these days. I have lost count the number of times he has called RTS Tupou and vice versa.

As tabloid style commentator Warren is a known gambling addict it makes me wonder due to players not being allowed to gamble on games then what's the position with commentators on placing bets? Now that online gambling is up to the minute commentators like Warren surely could not resist.

This talk of the dud dropout decision favouring the Roosters being a critical piece is outrageous.

In the first half the Dogs were awarded a dropout when it should have been a Roosters tap.

Not to mention how their first try was NOT a try -- as Gus called it, the ball bounced up. No way was it grounded. He missed it completely. If the score at the time had been close, the try would have been disallowed, but because it was 22-nil, they thought, "Hey, we'll give 'em this one."

I agree with you and share your annoyance that the television commentators are more annoying than they are insightful or entertaining. I do recall a few years ago on Foxtel there was an option to watch the match with the audio of the crowd and the microphone effects picking up player and referee communication but without hearing the commentators which is sadly no longer an option. I do not like to hear the commentators but I do enjoy hearing crowd reactions and referee explanations.

In 1990 and 1991 I worked at 2KY, & experienced the foul mouth of Ray Warren. I was in my early 20's and I prepared a sports quiz for his radio show. I remember one time, he stuffed up a question and during the ad break, Ray blamed me, called me for everything. I was shattered. So, I'm a bit bias. Ray Warren isn't the Mr Nice guy, everyone makes him out to be.
One of his best mates is Ray Hadley. That tells you something !!

I actually enjoy the Foxtel commentary for the most part and feel it adds to my enjoyment of most games, not only roosters games.

I used to hate Warren Smith in the old days but now I think he is a very astute and polished caller, with a good sense of humour and unafraid to express an opinion (which doesn't seem one eyed like the 9 idiots).
