I know I'm beginning to sound like a broken record but we have depth in the backrow but not in the backs as far as I can tell. We haven't even re-signed Toops. We've lost RTS, Maloney and probably Tupou and the only backs signing we've made is Burgess.
We don't really have any depth in the forwards as we found out this year when we had to make some last minute signings in Willie Manu & Lagi Setu. Gone are the days when Isaac Liu, Dylan Napa and Kane Evans are floating between reserve grade and first grade.

    Depth Pools for forwards and backs next year are;
    Outside Backs Forwards........ .... Halves/Hookers
Joe Burgess Willis Meehan Tyler Cornish
Brendon Elliott Mitchell Frei Joey Lussick
Latrell Mitchell Vincent Leuluai Grant Garvey
    Charlie Taylor Paki Afu
    Joey Manu Abraham Papalii

Feel free to add any names you think I might be missing but they're the blokes I believe will be in and around the train on first grade squad next year as depth players. Personally I look at that and think there's a lot of raw talent in that outside back group.

There's still the fullback issue that needs addressing and it looks like it'll probably be done internally but I'm fine with having youth as the depth in the outside backs I don't think they need to be as physically developed as forwards do to make it in First Grade. At moment it looks like we'll have 3 forwards who have are in their early to mid 20s and yet to crack first grade which is concerning even though I love the fact we're giving them a chance and then there's Meehan & Leuluai who need more experience playing against men.

It's the halves I'm worried about, personally I'd love to see some investment there. Even if it's a project player, someone who showed promised early but has fallen of the tracks somewhere along the line.

I thought Matagi did enough in his two games to deserve a contract especially if we lose Moa.

As Buddy said, add in Matagi. Agree more cover needed in the halves in case of injury. Mitchell Cornish might be tempted to get away from Sticky and join his brother? He has some talent IMO though he hasn't cut it in firsts so far. Assume Langi is gone in most people's eyes?

Re-signing Matagi would be awesome but I reckon we'll be in for some stiff competition. He'd be a starter at a few clubs and a bench play at most other clubs.

I think it's highly unlikely we'll be able to retain him.

At least we won't be at risk of drowning in our depth pool.

I reckon we've been a powerhouse for the best part of two decades. We've missed the finals five times during that time.

Good stuff R6. The only thing I'll add is I'm concerned that some of those depth backs are more likely to be frontline backs. No RTS and probably no Tupou means two of those players are already in the top squad and not depth.
Also I agree that our halves depth is VERY ordinary.

I hear a lot about Jack Hetherington. Would he be in the picture as depth yet?

Not just yet but definitely possible 1st grade material. He has just returned from injury and starting to showcase his ability. Long way to go for this 18y.o fella who was chased by several clubs before doing his grandpa (Bill Mullins) & uncle proud.
Some of you might remember Jack's father Brett who played front-row in the 90's for Canberra.

Thanks Gman. Is it true we also have Brett Mullins young son on our books somewhere?
