  • Mitchell Frei Joins Rooster 2016

THE chance to take his game to the next level under Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson has Mitchell Frei excited to join the Bondi club next season.
The Wynnum Manly Seagulls lock signed a one-year deal with the Roosters last month after two seasons in the Intrust Super Cup where he has been one of the most dominant forwards in the competition.
Frei during his time in the Broncos under-20s side. Picture: ADAM HEAD Frei spent a season with the Newcastle Knights in 2013 after playing with the Brisbane Broncos under-20s and said he could not wait to join the club for the 2016 NRL season.

“For me it was about looking at the way Trent had developed players in the past and in particular his backrowers,” he said.
“He’s got guys like Boyd Cordner, Aidan Guerra and Dylan Napa who are all great players in the NRL now and have really improved under Trent.
“Because of that, I’m really excited to go there for next season and just work hard, try and get better all the time and hopefully crack first grade.”
The 23-year-old Albany Creek junior said developing in the Intrust Super Cup with the Seagulls had him ready to have a crack at the NRL.
“Obviously getting to the NRL is always a goal but the Intrust Super Cup is a quality competition and you can’t just expect to be picked up by an NRL club. You have to focus on your job for your team and just performing each week,” Frei said.

Wynnum Manly coach Jon Buchanan said the signing was a great reward for the hard work Frei had put in over the past 18 months.
“There’s no doubt that it’s great for him to join a powerhouse like the Roosters,” he said.
“He’s obviously got some quality NRL stars and origin forwards in front of him and he has areas he needs to work on and he knows that.
“His strength is definitely carrying the footy, he can be a pretty dangerous player but the NRL is another level.”
Frei said his focus was on winning a premiership with the Seagulls before he moves to the Roosters.
“My time at Wynnum is probably the most I’ve enjoyed my football,” he said.
“They’re a great group of blokes, the club is great and has really helped me over the past two seasons. To go out with a premiership would be a great way to finish.”

under the right coach and the right attitude, any player can become anything.

Aiden Guerra was a park footballer before he arrived here and even when he arrived here he was in and out of our team and nsw cup before his break away year in 2013.
      Comment of the year:

Andrew Johns, Semi-Final vs North Queensland ,

"It's touched Lui's hand and travelled forward but that's not a knock on"

Isn't it nice to read about people who refer to "a powerhouse like the Roosters". It wasn't that long ago we were a shithouse.

Guerra was a highly rated junior when he came here, Bellamy lost his shit when he signed here.

He was also one of our best in 2011 and 2012.

Aiden "Che" Guerra was not a park footballer and was actually a very highly regarded young prospect but he was removed from any first grade calculations after agreeing to move to our club as this angered Craig "Bellyache" Bellamy greatly.

I do find it very positive that players wish to join our club to receive a boost in their career by learning under Trent "Robbo" Robinson's guidance despite the naysayers on this discussion website who claim that Mr Robinson is a poor rugby league coach.

Could be another diamond waiting to be polished, like SST. It is always a gamble, but I would prefer we are taking the gamble on unearthing the next gen.

Good gamble, Mitch Frei was a huge prospect in the Broncos 20's.

Love his attitude too for a young player trying to crack top grade, not worried about the money or a starting spot made a decision to join us because he's seen the individual development in players under Robbo & his coaching staff. Smart bloke.

Sounds like a good signing. But why are we signing so many forwards and no backs? I know I'm beginning to sound like a broken record but we have depth in the backrow but not in the backs as far as I can tell. We haven't even re-signed Toops. We've lost RTS, Maloney and probably Tupou and the only backs signing we've made is Burgess.

Good point Mighty - maybe because there is a " super star back" announcement in the wind.

He will be taking Maubs spot when he moves permanently into the centres.

His Dad Harry Frei was a very handy swing bowler for Queensland in the early 80s.
There's a reason why the young and idealistic become the old and cynical.
                            It's called experience.

So he's been signed to beef up the team in the annual Charity cricket match during pre-season? I probably would have tried for Dave Warner myself....
