When we are on top we successfully use the 5 hit ups and bomb, but we are usually using bombs from the oppositions side of halfway which puts huge pressure of their back three and usually resulting in a drop ball or error giving us great opportunity on their line. This usually works well against the average teams and early in the season but what happens when we play the better teams who are awake to our simple strategy. Well, last year's final series is case in point. We couldn't counter the opposition when our strategy of 5 hit ups and bomb didn't work, we had nothing in our kit to combat the opposition.
Yesterday we got tired with a huge wait of early possession against us and as a result our go forward was poor but instead of changing our game plan we continued with out hitup and bomb tactic but from our side of halfway. In the end we were easy picking for the Sharks and will continue to be against the top 8 teams if we don't quickly change our game plan. Our current strategy will get less effective as the season progresses and the good teams get better.
I agree totally and have thought we are so predictable. Same game plan since 2013. The power game is outdated if not then why no plan B. The Sharks were allowed to play offside all game against a forward pack that plays with no depth in attack. Not that hard to counter by playing deeper. The talk of ref bias and us being heavily penalised played right into the pockets of the NRL Sportsbet partnership -.logic here we wont penalise the roosters just allow the Sharks to counter their power game by being offside.i believe when a team can't play to its potential its a coaching problem both off and on the field.

and that has changed in the opening 5 games has it every friggen bomb is a midfiled bomb on pressure on full back or winger

there better off kicking for touch at least give a forwards a 1min breather

ive realised our halves are brainless

Mate is not our halves, they are coached to strictly follow a game plan. Watch the last ten minutes again and you will see a team they got desperate and decided to throw the game plan out the window and looked great in attack but it was all too late.

I agree with those here who are frustrated by the predictability of the Roosters play and despite Rooster_6's opinion, I'm not beyond slating the responsibility for this at the coach's feet.

Agreed this is a fair assessment of what went on. Also agree with the comments that we need to do work on the shape of the kick.

Go back to the days of Freddie and his spiral bombs - Freddie got a few hours to spare each week to work on this and perhaps bring one of the Swans players in.

We were landing it on the back three consistently and to be honest even with a good chase they were going to chew up a fair amount of metres.

Need to look at the fact that the referees are allowing players to be lifted and driven backwards – need to adjust this part of our game.

Our short kicking as you have stated was to be honest - panicked, they just lost their composure.

Last but not least run the ball on the 5th on the edges, we control the play the ball speed for their first often set in the corner of the field and probably don’t surrender much ground. Start kicking when they readjust the distance the wingers are standing back.

Isnt it a case of being proactive for 65 mins yesterday, following the gameplan???

Then being reactive, cos the gameplan wasn't working, hence throwing it out the window???

Is there maybe a school of thought we are starting the season playing a basic gameplan with the intention of changing it up later in the year???

I am of the belief you don't show your cards till you need to. Its too early in the season to show all your trick shots, I reckon we save them till we need them.

Also im sure we need the basic gameplan drilled into the players from day 1. They need something they know to revert to when it all goes awry, like if we lose a playmaker mid game or for a chunk of the season.

IMO its too early in the season to be running with a "chuck the playbook out" mentality.

There was nothing proactive about our first 65 minutes yesterday. If you want to turn on the attack later in the season you must start now, it will take half a season for the players to develop the timing, combinations, flow and confidence to play effective open attacking football. If we continue with this up and down strategy we will not be in the right frame of mind with the skill level and soft touches needed to beat the top sides.

Our overall kicking game is shite.

We also miss Friend's short kicking game from dummy half

I've been squealing like a stuck pig about the mindless bomb on the last tactics for years now.

It's interesting that a commentator finally highlighted how friendly Pearceys bombs are...just gentle end over end...pretty hard to drop really. Compare that to some others.

Preferably however just execute some different tactics on the last...there are options.
