  • if I see another midfield bomb I will throw the remote through the TV

seriously Robbo its rubbish, we have the most talented backline in the comp and it took 65 minutes for us to open up the attack and actually give it to them.

with the amount of blocking of players that takes place these days and goes unpenalised especially against us, the bomb is a statistically low chance of scoring trys. Of all the bombs we see only around 40% of them you would think we even create a contest of. And when there is no serious wind around it is even more baffling as to why continually use this ploy. Then again we don't exactly have johns or fittler in the halves.

they weren't ideal but would have looked 10x more effective if anybody had chased. Holmes and Gordon had so much time to position, catch and gain metres before anyone was there. Whole squad looked lazy, especially our forwards
I support two NRL teams, the Roosters and whoevers playing Souths

They are positional bombs, not attacking...the point is to kick the ball as high and deep as possible so the chasers can pin the opposition down in a corner.

When a match is close you will pretty much see us use this tactic for EVERY kick when we are 40 metres or more out.

also its not like we are even trying a spiral/floating bomb, I lost count at the number of times we just handed the sharks back possession today off an uncontested bomb.

the problem today was every kick was landing 15-20m out with no pressure on the sharks were taking their first play the ball on the 25-30m line all day.

              Kicking game was crap today...
Chasing the kicks to apply pressure was just as bad...

Robbo tactics the same every week. Our forwards are easy pickings in the ruck no depth innattack what so ever. Robbo needs a serious look at himself just as much as do some of the players.

Cause we weren't getting in as good field positions as we usually do.

Sharks dominated field position and that made or tactics look inferior, it always feels like that.

The tactic isn't the issue, it's won us back to back minor premierships. Our attitude was.

When we are on they are ok because they are used to nab them close to the line. When there's no chase because there's no energy or enthusiasm it's hopeless.

The chase was lacking this week cos we dropped a thousand balls which meant we were defending most of the game.

It is time to run the ball on the last, especially near the line. Both PearceOrf and Baloney blew overlaps with little chips that were useless and rushed today.

Blame the dogshit 7 tackle restart rule.

The bomb is now the correct play in those situations because there's no chance of a game changing 7 tackle 20m restart.

Isn't it about time Pearce learn't how to do a spiral bomb or floating bomb. Andrew Johns goes through this most weeks and how much more effective and dangerous these type of bombs are. Reynolds from Souffs has got these type of kicks down to a fine art and causes opposite fullbacks nightmares with these variations. Pearce just continually puts up those benign drop punt type up and unders, which may be more accurate, but surely he needs to learn how to mix them up a bit.

Mate I have been saying this since last year's semis. We are usually good when making plenty of metres when dominating other packs early in games. When we are on top we successfully use the 5 hit ups and bomb, but we are usually using bombs from the oppositions side of halfway which puts huge pressure of their back three and usually resulting in a drop ball or error giving us great opportunity on their line. This usually works well against the average teams and early in the season but what happens when we play the better teams who are awake to our simple strategy. Well, last year's final series is case in point. We couldn't counter the opposition when our strategy of 5 hit ups and bomb didn't work, we had nothing in our kit to combat the opposition.
Yesterday we got tired with a huge wait of early possession against us and as a result our go forward was poor but instead of changing our game plan we continued with out hitup and bomb tactic but from our side of halfway. In the end we were easy picking for the Sharks and will continue to be against the top 8 teams if we don't quickly change our game plan. Our current strategy will get less effective as the season progresses and the good teams get better.

We can't just rely on opposition to make mistakes before we strike, we have to be more proactive in our attack rather than reactive. Souths have changed their power game by going to their edges earlier and more often, we need to do the same and introduce more second phase plays like our last ten minutes yesterday when we got desperate, we looked great like the roosters of 2010.
