I'm not willing to see the roosters throw 3 years down the crapper to develop Hastings game like we did with Pearce, so I truly hope Maloney re-signs. His ability to spot weaknesses in the defensive line and exploit them is unmatched by anyone in our team. His goal kicking is also a massive plus.

If some here had their way we'd be tossiing out half our bloody backline this season and replacing them with a bunch of U20s kids who may never amount to a thing.

With RTS at fullback now, Fergo in the centres and Pearce hitting new heights it's nowhere near as much a concern but I'm still not a huge fan of having a 5/8 with limited vision.

I thought his last tackle option in the final minutes of the Rabbioths game summed it up perfectly for me. Souths were without a fullback, both RTS & Guerra were screaming for the grubber near the posts but he just lacked the vision to pick up on it and ended up putting in a dud bomb that went over the dead ball line, 20m restart, 7 tackle set.... game over. Those moments are what the halves get paid the big bucks for and the issue isn't that he didn't execute the kick to SKD properly I can forgive that it's the fact that he couldn't see the opportunity to begin with.

I think he executes his edge plays well and is generally a pretty good judge of when to run and when to pass, he plays to his strengths and for that reason he'd be a great fit for many teams and will undoubtedly be in demand but if he goes I wont be too fussed, nor will I be too fussed if he stays. Like I said he does a solid job but I think there's an opportunity in that position to add another dynamic to our team.
Pearce went a step backwards last Sunday.

The game was there for him to steer us home and he failed.

If some had their way? A little thing called the salary cap may have something to do with it?

          It was one game.

I wouldn't judge anyone on one game. Does it override the previous 12 or so games where he ranged from good to supreme?

Went backwards because he had one less than average game, coming off a season where he was our best player, arguably the best player in the finals last year and a motm preformance in Round 1?

Fair enough if you're not a huge fan, but don't make it sound like he's been a "so-so" signing. As far as I'm concerned he's been a great asset to the club and may that continue until 2017.
I've said numerous times that he was good in 2013 but I dont think it's any surprise his form fluctuates with the side. I thought he was pretty poor last year and when we lacked points it was Pearce who stood up for the team in big games and big moments. His dozens of stats dried up unfortunately.

You do realize in 2014 Maloney was top 5 in try assists with 24 ( pretty sure he was second) and line break assists and Pearce with 14 try assists was well out of the top 10 right in both categories?

Are you making the argument that Maloney was better than Pearce last year?

No Iam disputing your ridiculous claim that we can get a lot more out of the 5/8 position. Who exactly? I remember back in 2012 you rubbished Maloney's signing saying we would be better signing some under 20's player. Laughable stuff really but still you can't actually name the better option. For an uncreative player he creates more than Pearce so I would like to know where the 20+ try assists are going to come from and the 80%+ goal kicking. I also remember back in the day when Pearce copped a lot more criticism and your response was always to point to his try and line break assists. Suddenly they don't seem to matter.

What I love about Jimmy is that he compliments our supremely balanced attack.

On any given day it could be Roger, Jimmy, Pearce or Friendy that is the game breaker. And then they're surrounded by game breaking guys on the edges in Jenko, Ferguson, Cordner and Guerra.

It's a really balanced team and Jimmy plays a huge part in that. Only Souths offer the same threat across the park. So it's no surprise we're the two best attacking teams by far.

He and SBW basically won us 2013...I'm not a fan either, how dare he contributes to a premiership more than anyone else in the squad apart SBW!

Who would you suggest at the club or off contract would add a further dynamic to the team in 2016 at 5/8th plus satisfy the role as well as Jimmy including kicking goals and being a good all round leader and clubman....perhaps Nigel Plum ??.

SoH has the vision to create opportities close to the line. He will add another dimension to our attack from the 5/8 position or as a utility off the bench :-)

The team lacks this and I hope we never see it used anywhere near the line..
