I can only laugh after reading all the comments on the article. Carney didn't even do anything 'wrong', I know he shouldn't be drinking but the way people carry on it's they're making it like he committed such an awful discretion and that we have no choice but to sack him.

Hadley this morning on the radio said he'd phoned Gallop and Gallop is angry.

Hadley was calling our club "The Zoo" again, said "The Roosters are fostering a culture of drinking at Kings Cross pubs and clubs" or something like that.

He said Mr Politis will be back from overseas on Thurs or Friday, and then he proceeded to virtually tell Mr Politis what to do...ring Gallop and have Carney stood down, and to stop saying "These are fine young men who've done nothing wrong"...para.

What Watts has allegedly done is unforgivable. If true the guy needs to be locked up. And Id be happy to throw the key away.

And now I may get howled down for saying this, but whilst Carney may have been out drinking with him, he didnt do anything wrong but let himself and his club down. Yes it isnt illegal, and he has hurt the hand that feeds him, but is it sackable? Maybe it is. For me it isnt.

A high profile addict's weakness and the fact he cannot fight this addiction, even lying to the club to feed his habit, is the charge he faces. But despite the disrepute, the embarrassment, the anguish, the danger, this isnt the reason this issue is highlighted and centered around Carney this morning.

The reason all this looks so gloomy and "bad" for Carney, is the unsubstantiated crap and sensationalism from the DT and Beetroot face himself.

No names, Carney wasnt intoxicated, but according to the papers he was drinking Vodkas and soda all night. He walked out on his own, didnt stumble, didnt piss up a wall, but he was drinking Vodkas and soda all night. he wasnt caught driving unlicensed. He wasnt caught or seen arguing with anyone. He wasnt falling over or dragging women in the gutter. But he was drinking vodkas and sodas all night. Im surprised and disappointed the brand of Vodka wasnt mentioned.

Dont allow the alcoholic with the vendetta against us, to continue. Dont feed him. Ban his blog, and please stop reading the garbage, designed to suck the gullible in and create the frenzy.

But Im shattered for Carney. I know a little about dealing with the bottle, and I can tell you, it ain't easy stopping. Its easier going cold turkey off smokes after puffing away fro 20 years. Trust me.

So Im not ready to crucify Carney. Especially if his only crime was to break his promise and get sucked into another drink. But Im also doubting he was drinking that much (until 4am), although he may have been out until that hour.

What i am ready to do is completely ban and push for a complete ban of the particular newspaper and its sports journalists, who make up stories without presenting facts, to whip up the frenzy you are now seeing.

I ask every one of my fellow Roosters fans, patience is required with Carney here. And I dont mean everything's OK. But theres no need to sack him. We must stand him down from playing and ensure under a duty of care, we fix him. As much as it takes, as long as it takes. If we want to break this cycle we are seeing across league, then we must break 2 things - the culture and the beatups.

A man's career isnt at risk here (unless of course you claim to write for a newspaper). His life on the other hand is.
