Dumbrell looks a tall lanky thing. Unless he has put on 10-15kg of muscle over the last two years, he will get snapped in half if he plays first grade anytime soon.

So is the old "sore back" excuse going to be used by Ryles and Piggy every time they get dropped and avoid having to play for Newtown?
It was good enough for Mini

        What a bench -

        Moseo
        Ryles
        FPN
        Conn

Hopefully Friend is up to it tomorrow.

Thanks for mentioning that; I didn't realise Jets were travelling. Kara would be the man I guess.

Only thing that makes me doubt that with Piggy is that I would have thought he would travel over as a backup. They could always say he strained his back or stubbed a trotter on the plane or something if they wanted an excuse for leaving him out of the 17. As for Ryles, it's hard to say. He made a similarly slow start to last season, and had a back complaint then as well, which seems to have been genuine. Old guys can take a while to get going in a season and do tend to develop chronic niggles. I just hope he comes good. We have reasonable depth in the frontrow but not much experience.

Probably one of the halves with Anasta switching to 5/8th. Pearce might seem most likely, but I've got a slight hunch it would be Todd (he wouldn't defend in the middle obviously).

I think Piggy didn't go over for cost cutting and saving the price of two seats and of course the food bill over there.

I hope Ryles is over his "back problem" because if he shows the same form as he did in the first three rounds then he really needs a stint in Newtown.

So now all those suggestions I made about Anasta, Pearce, (BTW I never suggested Mini and never would) that some ridiculed might come to fruition afterall. My theory was simple. Smithy has a backup option in case Friend or Piggy goes down. Use it for 20 minutes. Do you see our bench this week? Have you still got a problem with the team balance? It looks fine to me because if necessary we have players all over the park that can make quick adjustments if required and our rotation will always have fresh exocets bombarding the enemy.

It's hard to believe it's the same bloke as in that clip. Looks to have put on 15 kg since, doesn't look tall at all anymore and no head gear. Don't think his fitness is up to fg standard yet anyway cos he spends 30 minutes off the field when eshman comes on and I wouldn't call eshman an impact player. The kid is a few years off I'd say. But he does already know how to make a break even if it is Toyota cup.

If the plan is to play Friend for 80 minutes, I'm more than happy. I love a bench with three frontrowers. I am very much opposed to an additional wide-running backrower there, but that has been circumvented by Maubs shifting to centre. I hope he thrives there, because I have a feeling that if he goes back to the second-row it will force Symonds out of the team, and might mean we won't be able to re-sign him.

Having a contingency plan for the odd time Friend might get injured is one thing, but whenever the actual plan is not to play him for 80 minutes, then I am still convinced we need Piggy on the bench.

I'm sure Anasta can fill in at hooker easily if needed. We would have the forwards to cover him and leave Carney and Pearce in the halves.

The benefit of not splitting the halves might make him an option. But gonna have to disagree that Anasta would fill in easily at dummy-half. It's a far more important and specialised role than many realise.

For 20 minutes he can't be worse than Koups and we did alright last year.

yo.. suspect it could be related to the concussion he suffered last weekend.. Could see Maubs to backrow with heaven forbid Graham slotting into the backrow which is apparently how they trained today.
