  • Anthony Cherrington back for the finals?

Just thought I would share something I read in RLW last week:

    Rubgy League Week
    FROM THE SHEDS
by Tom Smith (16 March 2011)

Luckless Anthony Cherrington is using the birth of his child as motivation to recover from his second knee reconstruction in as many years. "We're having a baby next month, so the aim was to be able to walk so I can give my partner a hand," the 22 year old says. "It's something new that's happening in my life and I'm taking it with open hands." If rehab goes according to plan, Cherrington hopes to return to the field before the end of 2011. "My aim is to come back and play one or two games at the end of the year. I don't mind if it's for the Roosters or Newtown. I haven't played for a long time, so it won't bother me."

It would be nice to think that Cherro could be back before his expected return date and add some depth to our side come finals time. Naturally just how much ahead of time he returns and the impact on the salary cap would play a part in this.

You beat me to it Melon. From what the team have showed so far we will be lucky to avoid the spoon, let alone play finals football. Glad to see Cherro is doing well. Hope he is not planning on bashing any more women any time soon.

It would surprise me, he's held in high regard at the club. Not just a talent but as a club man. He's off contract at the end of next year for the record.

So suddenly you're a subject matter expert on knee reconstructions? Are you willing to bet a self-imposed ban on this forum if he does play?

you post a lot here.. I have seen no evidence that you're an expert on football.

Even if we make the finals, and we're right on track, would Smith even contemplate putting someone at that stage with little football time? I doubt it very much. He should just get it right for 2012.

I think he should concentrate on rehab and not rush himself or give himself false hope of playing this year. Forwards dont reach their true peak till they are in their mid twenties. I hope he can bounce back because he has the ability to become a great ball playing back rower. Its a blessing in disguise because we are chocker block filled with back rowers its ridiculous.

I never claimed I was an expert on anything. I never come on here and make bold claims as though it is gospel..like you just did. How do you know he won't be back before the finals? Are you an orthopedic surgeon?

My thoughts exactly. Cherro would not be up to speed at the end of the year to play finals football, so Brian would not use him in first grade. And really what is the point of Cherro playing a few games at the end of the year for Newtown. Imo he would be far better off to concentrate on a return for the trials next year, make sure his knee is properly repaired and strong, to minimize the risk of it happening again. Cherro owes the Roosters a big season in 2012!

The irony would be if he signed for another club in 2013.
