My guess is he will be back... worst case he will be a few weeeks late, best case he will play a few trial games... doctors always lean towards the more conservative side to cover themselves in my experience.

For starters at the very least he came back 2 weeks ago and they should have sent him in for scans straight away instead of wasting yet more time for recovery. What would it have hurt to have the scans done 2 weeks ago, let alone what should have happened with him having the scans done straight after the 4 nations!! Very amateurish!!

Cheers NC, i just really need to vent
Two weeks ago there'd be a chance that the best treatment and doctors wouldn't have been available as they would have still been on their Xmas break. Who would you rather operating on TC, a stop gap surgeon or a renowned leader in his field? Most hospitals have an Xmas 'close down' period that runs into the first half of January, when only limited staff are on call.

I want to beat the Vermin as much as anyone, and more than most, but I don't believe that having Carney in the side is the be all and end all. Brian Smith's sides have never been one to rely on one player alone, and that's the way it should be. If the Roosters cannot win without Carney then we are in dire straights as you never know when injury and suspension can hit, as they already have. For the Roosters to succeed it must be a TEAM effort, with or without Carney.

Look on the bright side, Carney's enforced rest gives a young bloke like Jonno Ford much needed experience at a time when we can afford to blood him in during the trials. Better now than mid season at Origin time.

I love your attitude NC, you sound like a terrific person!

I see your point about how around xmas time can be difficult in getting 'the' surgeon you want. I am sure if uncle Nick threw money at the particular surgeon to give up a bit of their vacation time they would. But what should have happened is that the Roosters knew that Carney had a problem during the 4 nations, and straight after it should have sent him in for scans so they could know what the go was and plan a course of action. If Carney had to give up going to Mexico then so be it, if you want to make the most of your career and do the right thing by your team mates then you have to be willing to make those little sacrifices. I am quite sure that Todd not going to Mexico for a few weeks is not going to kill him. You have to get your priorities right!

Yes we can still beat the vermin without Todd, but it just makes it all the more harder and you would have to admit that taking your best player out of your side is going to reduce your odds of winning. The Roosters are like every other team, if you take your best player out of the side then you are going to find winning quite a bit more difficult, for example Prince - Titans, Lockyer - Broncos, Marshall - Tigers. I just really like it when the odds are stacked in our favor, especially when it comes to the vermin!

I really like your look on the bright side. It is a great opportunity now for Ford in the trials to stake his claim for the 5/8th spot for when Todd is out during SOO.

Remember that the Vermin's best player, ie; Burgess, is no certainty to contest Round 1 either due to an injury picked up during the Four Nations, which was not initially thought as bad as it ended up being.

And fatguts Taylor has overindulged as usual during the Festive Season, which means he won't be anywhere near peak fitness. Ditto for Inglis, who still looks as if he's devoured an entire KFC franchise.

The Vermin have their own issues re their Round 1 playing roster, believe me.

You have to take the good with the bad re injuries and footy. They are inevitable and no one is immune - no matter which club they play for and how important they are to that side. But it's much better they occur at the start of the season, rather than later on. The Roosters took the right course once they realised that TC's groin was not improving. Better than in 06 when Sticky had Braith play the season with a dodgy groin, rather than have an op early on.

As for TC forgoing his one chance per year of a complete break from footy - I think that's unreasonable to ask. Everyone needs some down time and time out. And his only chance was those few weeks just after the 4 nations. I wouldn't begrudge him that.

To top it off, our bunnies will be thinking that we are easy pickings now that Todd is out (maybe) and relax only to be still smashed. How good will that be to their self belief?

Remember that we smashed the vermin in Carney's first game back, when he was playing at fullback. That Carney was a long way off from the Dally M winning 5/8. We smashed them that day because we were fitter and fired up. If we are fitter and fired up again, we will beat them again.

a great example of why Toyota Cup should become either under 23's or a proper reserve grade comp
Couldn't agree more, playing Rugby league in the lower leagues/juniors needs to become a profession. Seeing way too many players giving up on their dream if they're not at the elite level because there's not advantage for clubs to continue to develop them. 23 is still very raw for a halfback in my opinion, the same goes for props this is what age they should be entering first grade not retiring.

I hope your right about the bunnies having their own issues, they deserve shit to happen to them, but to be honest it would not surprise me in the slightest if crowe is doing a beat up on taylor and a few other things to try and have us lower our guard! I would say that souffs will be at full strength round 1, while we seem to be dropping like flies with already Carney, Watts, Maubbs, Graham unavailable and we haven't even played a trial yet where we always inevitably pick up even more f*king injuries!

You are certainly right how it is far better for Carney to have this problem now and not late in the season! If sticky was still our coach no doubt he would do the same thing with Carney as he did with Anasta in 06 like you said, poor Carney would be hobbling around all year in severe pain.

That sounds very good to me mate! After we smashed them round 1 last year their self belief was shot to pieces, i would just love for us to dish them up the exact same thing for this year!!
