would prefer an extended layoff if it means coming back fully fit. Bad memories of Fittler playing half a season with a bad groin. There were plenty pouncing on Freddy for 'not putting in' though it would've kept most off the field altogether.
My greatest memory of fittlers groin was when my dad and I used talk about it and my mum in a thick maltese accent pipes in with..."Whats wrong with Freddies balls"??
You know the saying about being kicked in the groin...she just assumed it was his nuts.

Admittedly this is Greek but it's nearby.

The problem with Brad Fittler is that he may have weighed 95 kilos while playing but 90 kilos of that was poutsos so any injury was life threatening.

Perhaps that is Todd's problem too.

During the trials I'd like to see Symonds at lock and Anasta at 5/8 for 1/2 a game and then Jono Ford at 5/8 for the other the half with Anasta and Symonds sharing lock forward.

why do we have so little cover in the halves?

even forgetting about this injury, if Pearce and Carney make Origin, how we be talking about the likes of Friend, Symonds or ffs even Riddell playing in the halves?

a great example of why Toyota Cup should become either under 23's or a proper reserve grade comp

It has a ring of Fittler about it, which is a worry.

But he always waited for the semi's for his groin to pack it in.

THE Roosters' premiership campaign has been dealt an early blow with star playmaker Todd Carney in danger of missing the start of the season with a groin complaint.
A key player in the Sydney Roosters' charge to last year's grand final, the 2010 Dally M Medallist will go under the knife tomorrow and is expected to miss the next two months.

The utility's setback is also a minor headache for incoming NSW coach Ricky Stuart, who is sweating on Carney being at peak fitness as the Blues try to snap Queensland's five-year stranglehold on State of Origin.

Roosters doctor John Orchard said there was no guarantee Carney would be fit for the club's opening-round clash against South Sydney on Friday, March 11.
"He came back to start pre-season for two weeks but his groin is limiting him quite a lot. We've made a decision to seek a second opinion and he'll have a slower start to the season," Orchard said.

"He'll have the operation but thankfully it's not a big one. He might be a chance for round 1 but it's an injury that has been lingering so we didn't want to push him along, have him playing the trials and be carrying it into round 1.

"It's touch and go. If you get a quick recovery with no problems, then Todd will be right for round 1.

"But sometimes you get little re-strains after the surgery so we might have to delay Todd for a couple of weeks.

"We're not certain of round 1 but we're aiming for that."

The former Raider developed the problem after the NRL grand final as a member of Australia's Four Nations squad.

"Todd didn't have a problem during the finals but the Four Nations squad did some heavy sessions," Orchard said.

"Todd didn't have a lot of game time but they pushed the blokes who weren't playing and that's how it developed."

The Test pivot could have played through the pain barrier this year but opted for immediate surgery after speaking with Roosters teammate Braith Anasta.

"Braith has been through this before, he played the year with groin pain and found he didn't have his same zip," Orchard said.

                      Carney to miss trials
                      17/01/2011 5:28:16 PM
The Sydney Roosters advise that Todd Carney has today had scans on his groin and will have surgery this Wednesday, 19 January.

The recovery period for this operation is approximately 8 weeks and rules Todd out of the trial matches as well as the All Stars game.

He is expected to be fit around Round 1 of the 2011 season.

Is anyone else a little annoyed that TC picked up this injury whilst on Four Nations duties? I'm not happy about that at all and should a similar thing happen during origin because pricky stuart "pushes" the players then the Roosters' season will be somewhat hampered.

Maybe he didn't have surgery then because it wasn't until he returned to training in January that they realised it was an issue. Sometimes these injuries can heal themselves with rest, which is what TC was having after the 4 Nations.

You have no reason to be pissed off because the club didn't rush him into what may have been an unwarranted operation.

As it is he will only miss the trials and perhaps a game or two of the regular season. No need to stress about it.

As for injuries during the 4 Nations, it's par for the course. This year alone we had Burgess injure his shoulder and Moz break his arm, and that's the major ones we've heard about, as well as TC's. And from memory a few Kiwis picked up injuries as well.

You ask Todd whether he regrets being a part of that 4 Nations and I'll guarantee you he'll say not a chance, despite picking up an injury, which from memory I have read somewhere actually started flaring up late last season, before the 4 Nations.

NC i am just really frustrated that our best player is in danger of missing round 1 against the vermin as i hate them with a passion, a passion that you could never imagine!!!!!! I don't want the scum of the earth getting any advantages what so ever!

For starters at the very least he came back 2 weeks ago and they should have sent him in for scans straight away instead of wasting yet more time for recovery. What would it have hurt to have the scans done 2 weeks ago, let alone what should have happened with him having the scans done straight after the 4 nations!! Very amateurish!!

Cheers NC, i just really need to vent
