I just can't see why Ben Jones is at the club if Brian Smith doesn't see him as the back up half. The only other position he could play would be hooker and Smith has already (1) picked up Watts to fill the backup hooker role and (2) picked up Riddel when Watts got injured.

Surely this means that Smith has discounted Jones as a hooker?

Like I said, I can't really see much talent there, but plenty of people who matter see some talent there.....he is even in the 'Future Maroons' squad!

Same people picked Sandow in the same squad. Doesn't stand for much.

It may feel like Jones has been around forever, but he is still only 20 years old...

I am not sure that he has grown in to a regular first-grader yet, but that is not to say that he won't...

Many believe he is a Jamie Lyon type centre down the track...

He is not a hooker though.

To be honest, I'd rather just sit and look up in the middle of a scrum!

If during Origin, with our two of our most attacking players likely not to be in the side, why would we move our only other genuinely successful 2010 attacking option?
Remember during the finals, Gus showed a stat on the Footy show or Sunday footy show of how many tries were scored/set up via Anasta down his LHS channel, it was 12 or 16 (I think), with another scored in the GF.

I can't imagine that Smith would move him and lose that very potent option, (that'll only be better this yr),with Maubs/Cherro/Tommy running off him.

So, for me, half - NFI, 5/8 - Tommy.

Hopefully Tommy plays 5/8 for Newtown, even though he's a backrower, we need him to play 6 in the 2's for Easts depth, cause in reality, it's all about the ROOSTERS.

THERE are still 166 days before State of Origin I kicks off, but Roosters coach Brian Smith is already thinking about contingency plans for when he is likely to lose both of his halves - Todd Carney and Mitchell Pearce - to the Blues.

With new recruit, former Cowboys utility Anthony Watts, not expected back until after the Origin opener, the Roosters mentor is tossing up the idea of moving rising star Jake Friend to the halves for their round 11 clash with the Knights.

From the telegraph. IMO that's probably the best way to go with Piggy taking the hooking role with Jake at halfback and either Braith or Symonds at 5/8.

Pretty sure Friend used to play 5/8 in his junior years, halfback might be a bit of a stretch but he has a good passing and kicking game.

A lot will have changed by Round 11, see how the Jets are going and our Under 20's... could be a few surprises.

It would seem that us Chookpeners are assisting Tyson Otto (i suspect a.k.a Tries of Kicks) with good info to compile his column for The Daily Astonisher. Tyson provided the above "scoop" in todays paper.
C'mon Tyson, roll your sleeves up, get out there and get some original info instead of bludging off us. I suppose you've learnt from the best.....your mentors Buzz & Bec.

I'll be surprised if Smith selects Jones in any position. It could be that in spite of Jone's Youth, his long tenure at the club, the Roosters may be paying overs for the talented utility player, they want to show him the door, but who will take him off our hands if his payments exceeds what the coach believes he is worth.
