I think until we find a fullback who can ball play any injury to Carney is going to be a big one. Apart from Watts who is only ever going to be a bench player we lack someone who can play outside of a structure.

As for Pearce he'll always continue to be underrated his whole career because he's not flashy... i.e doesn't score hektic tries with lots of skillz. His organistional abilities shouldn't be underestimated, it didn't surprise me a whole lot that he got the clubs player of the year.

Just for your benefit I'll reprise it here ...

"At various stages of the season they were without the following players for varying lengths of time."

I have emphasised two words in my sentence that I believed would have conveyed some meaning to the intelligent reader. Remember, I'm no expert on the CBBs or their injuries throughout season 2010 and never said I was so if my post appears "massively uninformed" to you, I don't give a rat's arse, it's my impression of their season and you're entitled to your own. Ordinarily I'd tell someone who responded to me as you have to get farked but I'll make an exception for you ...
I could sense a discussion about the 'Dogs and was drawn back here to take up the cudgels and lo and behold it's you!!! LOL .... Just don't know who you are anymore ...

Yeah, we had injuries throughout the season but not for any significant periods, apart from Jake Foster and Roberts. For the last month we had everyone on deck, even Corey Payne who had been out all year with a shoulder reco got a run in the last game of the year. We were a different side when Roberts was there, when he has the ball the opposition have no idea what he is going to do. Unfortunately, neither does he or his team mates.

It was more the players that were on the field that hurt us than the ones that weren't. Our whole management of the on-field was very poorly handled, including the pre-season, poor recruitment, coaching issues and some personnel issues.

        1. Kimmorley was a spent force, in fact, he was spent after Origin in 2009. His enthusiasm waned through the season and his demeanour affected all around him.
        2. Our backrow was insipid, Ryan should have been pensioned off. Our team overall was too old.
        3. Luke Patten was a shadow of the player he was. He always had a mistake in him, but his mistakes were absolute clangers. He is the man responsible for managing our defensive line and at times last season it was non-existent.
        4. Morris wouldn't pass the ball, he was obsessed with the first try scorer odds and the bet with his brother. To be honest, I am looking forward to him being back in Saints colours in 2012.
        5. Our style of play .... slow, predictable, outdated.
        6. The abominable team selections.
        7. Ben Hannant divided the club.

Many of us amongst the "old and bold" are annoyed that we have once again gone out and bought in mercenaries to refresh the squad. Our tradition is to grow our own, bring them through bolstered by key imports. At the moment our juniors aren't coming through into the NRL squad, but that's a discussion for another forum.

Pearce is 21 FFS!! name me another halfback at this level at this age.

He gets better every year and really started to show maturity this year.

There is some truth to the underated tag in that everyone talks about how he doesn't live up to unrealistic expectations and is therefore average. If you think he is average then you are underating him.

Whilst having support from some of the more knowledgeable and respected commentators in league he'll largely be underrated imo. Brett Finch & Brett Kimmorley were two players who I thought went through their players largely underrated because they were organisers not creative halves.

I've already read crap about how he doesn't set up enough tries and goes missing in the big games.

He was largely overrated when he first entered the scene but I don't think that anymore.

              LOL, well I stand corrected.

Being without your first choice #6 is no help and I wonder how well the Roosters would have gone without Anasta/Carney being available for the bulk of the season. Nevertheless, as you say, it wasn't the sole reason for the CBBs poorer season when compared to 2009.

Good post and an interesting view on Morris. It seems you think he'll end up back at the merge scum stain.

Lastly, I'd like your honest view on the GF please.

Well without looking into it too far....

Andrew Johns was pretty much a fixture in Origin and was MVP for the Kangaroos in the World Cup around 21/22.

The Eels won a premiership with a 21 year old Peter Sterling.

Tigers with a 20 or 21 year old Benji Marshall.

I remember Johns playing origin as a bench hooker whilst Kimmorley was halfback.

Utterly disgusted, I switched it off at the 65th minute when they awarded the Young try.

Have had the opportunity to discuss it since with one of the officials involved. I see him regularly through our kids and we get on really well. I make it a point not to talk footy with him, as everyone does, but we did talk about that. To say he was disappointed is an understatement.

In the incompotence of the refs or that Saints only managed to scored 32 points?

                        Chook.

If we are comparing him to Sterling and Johns then fair enough!

Johns was too busy getting his arse kicked and coming off the bench to be worrying about becoming a 'fixture'. Dont let facts get in tbe way though.

Thanks. I'm not quite over the disappointment yet but I'm sure I'll get there eventually.

Do you think referees can sometimes allow their personal likes or dislikes for certain teams get in the way of their performance? I ask that in light of your last statement.

All the best to you and yours matey.
