  • How do we stop the Train?

Jarryd Hayne next week. The one man team. What he is able to do in attack is terrifying. I have never seen anyone like him. What the hell can we do to stop him? I am sure Smithy will come up with something but many others (including Bennett) have failed. It is just so hard. He roams all over the field so you can't designate someone to swat him. It has to be a team effort. Concentrate on Hayne boys. The rest of his team is hopeless. I can't wait to see what Smithy comes up with.

And don't reply saying he is just one player and it would be a mistake to just concentrate on him. He is their team. Come up with the tactic to nullify him and they are ****ed.

Go Easts. How good is it to have a team you look forward to seeing play?

JWH should start and be sent out there to legitimately bash him out of the game, Hayne doesn't like when things get physical.

            Hear hear ....

You come up in a straight line and you keep coming up until someone nails him. He will go backwards all night and take his support out of play. Then hit him and hit him hard and put him on the deck.

            Morons is being kind!

                Start strong.

                Good kick chase.

Try and minimise his involvement somehow.

he is at his best when there is is broken play. kick the ball dead make them take it out from there 20 where our defensive line can get set.

Keep kicking the ball dead. He will get frustrated and try to overplay his hand.

His kick returns put Parra on the front foot each set.

He is going to be a protected species though, so we have to watch our contact with him. See that penalty yesterday? Laughable.

The obvious answer is trying to restrict his space and time. We've got a very good kicking game so we should make sure we take advantage of that by kicking it to corners and kicking it dead at the end of our general sets. It stops his run from the kick receive and really we start to dictate and have control of the way the game is played.

When Hayne is at the line, we need our defensive line speed high. Lots of teams sit back off him in caution and try to react to what he'll do with a sliding defence when, instead, they need to snuff out opportunities as early as possible.

Parramatta, when they're on, also throw the ball around with lots of offloads in general play. Our defence needs to be really smart and really aware.

No doubt, this will be a really hard game. A lot rides on our defensive pressure, becasue I'm confident we can match the point scoring.

My last point is that Parramatta is a confidence team. When Hayne does something magical you can always sense that the opposing teams think 'oh no, not the Hayne train' (perhaps something not as ridiculously corny as that ) and their resilience and belief completely dies. Contrastingly, it's Hayne's brilliance that gets Parra up and about.

We need to make sure we don't lose confidence, becasue when you start to give up in your mind that's really just the beginning of the end isn't it?

I was at the game last night he was very stong, I've seen Parra a few times this season. One thing that dosn't get picked up by the cameras is how at times he gets ****ing stuffed behind play. There were sets of six were he was 40-50 metres away with his hands on his knees when Parra were defending in the other half. Melbourne tried to exploit this with chip kicks in their own half, they had some success. This is risky but I think less risky then kicking it to him.

I read that some here are suggesting that we shoot up out of the line and go for a big hit, big mistake. If anyone tries to be a hero and goes for a big hit we will be ****ed. Get a tape and watch the GF last year. Everytime he went on those cross field runs Melbourne just pushed up and as a TEAM just slid and covered him. When he goes on those cross field runs he is hoping for someone to break line it is then he can step them or get an overlap. You can't give him a broken line!

Another thing where at least two fullbacks have burnt us Gardiner and Dugan is putting kicks in where only 1-2 guys are chasing. Mini always calls them it kills me. We have to be willing to concede some time and again present him with a full line on kick returns. Even better as others have mentioned kick it out or dead. Saints seem to have worked on a theory that he dosn't like bringing it back out of his right side of the field.

Well said Fitzy and we have a great record against Parra last time im preety sure we put 20 on them we have the luxury of having great halves that will control and dominate the game im going 13 +

Worry about Parra next week when we're screwed from monday's game hopefully after they've given their all defensively. We're still not in a safe enough position to be able to look ahead past weekly games.

But Hayne + open space = suicide. And everyone targetting him is not going to work at all, it'll just free up everyone else for easy plays.
