I've just been discussing this with a mate who's opinion i respect, he reckons Anasta has to be lock or nothing, and I have to agree.

I see Symonds as a centre this year...make the most of his "youthfull speed" while he has it..

He was an awsome "hole-runner" in his limited time in the centres last year..

I see Symonds as the new Fletch in a couple of years though..

Or Fletch & Ricko's love child

If they work properly together they will take pressure off each other. Which means if one is being targeted by the attack and forced to do a lot of defense, like Pearce was last season, then the others can take the pressure of the playmaking while he rests.

Anasta doesnt compliment pearces game too much he more or less stifles Pearce .Like the rst of you I wouldnt know Anasta he has been good at this club and nearly the best player on the field week in week out while the rest of them did nothing.

you blokes are missing the point about todd playing fullback. look at who the wingers are, they both are fullbacks. Can slot back there when todd slots into the 5/8 position either side of the ruck. Look at who plays centre for us both are wingers can slot onto the wing when todd decides to come in and play 5/8 anytime he likes. this plan is what smith is working with at the moment. look at all the options it gives us all over the park todd can cover lots of positions. How do other coaches plan for where he will bob up. think about it.

Good post Shagger....I like the options we have in attack, and the unpredictability, as long as we have some good go forward, and a good kicking game to get us field position.....its just the defence im worried about.

in the centres he's the slowest and the worst
given that you kniw nothing about League, I doubt youd be familiar with the defensive requirements of at least one centre. One centre must be capable and willing of making 20+ tackles per game.

Given you probably havent watched a lot of Anasta, opting for running down the Cafe and picking up your master's gay-a-chino evey morning, youd probably mave missed where and how Anasta defends and when he switches to either side of the ruck.

Given our centres cant read a Marvel comic let alone an attacking raid, there is some merit in playing Anasta as a centre.

                      lol

you're way too far gone to discuss football with. The thing that pleases me is knowing that your tosser attitude is borne out of the fact that, deep down, you know that you're an unlikeable, angry, wanker. And you're not happy about it.

I will give you some credit. At least you tried a comeback, no matter how pathetic it was. Clueless ****s like Buzz for example would have just sat there in a hissy fit and watched their WC Fields nose glow even redder.

Wouldn't one of the defensive requirements be that they have to be fast enough to be able to make the tackles on their opposites........I could see Jennings, Morris, Lawrence and co having afield day against Braith.

Don't forget he's coming back from a pretty severe injury......we won't know how his speed and agility is affected until he's played a few games.

todd's been out of the game for 2 years well done smithy don't through him straight back into 5/8 let him find his feet again. A trial is a trial and 10 min's doesn't say he's back. after 10 rounds todd WILL be 5/8. mini's been out for so long now smith needs to put him on the billy sting to ease him back too. be patient everyone if todd stays off the drink and mini's back hold out how long do you think smith will leave a golden boot winner and a potential origin 5/8 out of there fav positions!

Thats my point. Anasta isnt as slow as people make him out to be....maybe with the ankle injury the argument becomes a moot point. But many times he does what Freddy did in cover out wide, snuff out the attacking play, especially close to the line. Lets face it, we dont have genuine centres that are fast. Graham is a winger. SKD - same. Perret - goes close but he's a fullback. Ranga Jones can do. Symonds? - Good hole runner, but is he faster than Anasta? The rest are young, inexperienced centres that will obviously fit the bill with experience.

To me that means Anasta at centre, to accomodate Carney and Perace in the halves and keep one ball player too many out of the ruck, is a viable option albeit short term.

The arguement put foward by some is that Anasta is not even close to a centre - which is the point Im arguing. He's as close to a comlpete centre as weve got.
