  • Merrin rejects St Merge

Trent Merrin has apparently turned down an offer from the dragons, thought to be worth 1.8 million over 3 years. It's reported to be due to demanding more cash.

Surely we won't be going after him then, imo Merrin is worth no more than 600k unless he turns into at least a 65 min player. Considering he only plays around 50 min at the dragons, especially after origin, he's not worth it I don't think. We're better off going after Taumalolo for around 150-200k cheaper, or if not use that money to keep the likes of RTS, Guerra, Jennings, JWH etc.

    Thoughts?

He could play 65 minutes a game imho and I suspect he will be looking to find a club that has a good chance at grand final success and that is why he really knocked back saint merge

Yeah, not worth $600k +. Probably wouldn't sign him for more then $500k. We have too many others to be re-signed over the next couple of years.

someone will pay Taumalolo huge money, if Proctor was fielding offers around $700k a season, Taumalolo is going to get more.

For what it's worth Merrin can play 80 minutes no probs

No way is $600k an appropriate price tag. Merrin is not a game breaker lke SBW.

Is Merritt suddenly a goal kicking match winning halfback?

IMO easily worth 600k. With the new Commision 600 these days is would only be equivalent to 450 a few years ago. Quality player with a good work ethic and wealth of experience. Would fit in nicely and would go to another level in the RWB

Well with JWH signing with the tigpies last thursday, Cordner heading back to Newcastle, Pearce going to the dragoons, RTS going back to yawnion, Daniel Tupou heading to the doggiez, FPN going to the raiders(hopefully), Guerra going to the Cowboys along with everyone one of our juniors, Moa going to the riff, I think we can afford to sign Merrin

The doggies could get him with 3rd party agreements. 600K for them is like $6 for us.

His manager is Wayne Beavis who has strong ties with uncle Nick so something could be brewing.

But Mary is a straight shooter.

                          He said so himself!

How can anyone dislike a man of such humility

2 years in a row Merrin has gone on about how he wants to be an 80 minute player and that he thinks he's ready. Noticed plenty of times last season he was furious when Mary took him off and only played him for 50 minutes. Wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to leave, could probably get similar money elsewhere + more game time and not be at a club going downhill fast.
