  • Freddy on Robbo/Roosters

was interesting listening to Freddy on the sunday footy show on his views of why the Roosters haven't had the greatest of seasons so far.

his basic message was we are trying to play 2013 style football in 2014, plain and simple we haven't evolved as a football team from one season to another, other sides have become better and we are standing still.

teams have now had 18 months to work out and counter our strengths, it is now over to Robbo to make the adjustments necessary to right the ship, the 5 hitups and bomb to the corner mentality isn't cutting it in 2014.

I agree and have felt this for most of the year.
I hope we have been practicing in private for season 2014 and not yet playing our new style in matches, rather saving it for later in the season and for the semis.

What the heck is 2014 footy as compared to 2013 footy ?

Heard Freddy on the Footy Show say we haven't improved ...all sounds good, but I would've liked to hear from him bit more specifics rather than generalisations.

The one area I think we have really stagnated is the 'between the ears' footy. I would've thought a premiership brings smarts and experience to the team and the ability to think and make the right calls under pressure, but it seems in recent weeks we've gone back to playing the dumb footy we did pre TRobbo !
The only player whose seemed to improve on his 2013 form is Jake Friend.

Mini and Jnr Jnr have both said recently that it's not about changing what they are trying to do, it's about doing it better. So I don't think we are about to see anything different from the team this year

Yeah ..I guess if we changed our playing style and we didn't win, everyone would be asking why we changed a winning formula !

After watching a few matches from last year, I think the only real difference is the speed and intensity at which we are playing. In attack we had more support play and our passing was crisper, and in defence we moved faster and were more mobile, and we hit harder. Whether its due to a lack of desire, bad refereeing or other teams not letting us play this way (or a combination), we just aren't doing things as hard and fast. Perhaps we have underestimated a bit how much the lack of pre-season effected us

On Friday he said that we were back. Now we're stuck in 2013 mode?

Manly have done nothing different to last year,

they still play their brand of 2011, 2012 & 2013 footy

we have not achieved our 2013 level as yet...

I'm surprised that Robbo hasn't copped a bit more stick for our inconsistent performances and same old boring tactics this year.

Other coaches weren't quite treated with such tolerance.

Well I've been asking the same question. Robbo is far too protected on here

it's hard to know what freddy thinks.

With football in hand he is a genius. As a commentator..............meh

There are times as a football analyst you think he is a genius, other times you think he takes medication to keep oxygen rising to his brain. He can say some pretty ridiculous stuff at times.

Some people try to over analyse everything but the only thing we're not playing like last year is because there is no drive to win like it was last year. Everything was falling into place whereas this year it isn't and it's not motivating the team.

                              True...

I guess he has the grace of a season after jagging it last year

although the commentary of late has suggested we are found wanting in key areas which is in no doubt public criticism of the coach
