  • Sbw puts body on line for his faith

Ramadan began yesterday, and sonny cant have water or food during daylight hours for the next month.

Game against panthers on july will test him as it starts at 3pm, and he can't even have a sip of water!

    Good luck.

He did this last year without a problem. I don't see it being a problem now either.

No use me converting to Islam...no way I could observe all that Ramadan fasting etc.

      A footballer not drinking fluids?
Recipe for disaster if you ask me.

Having a bye during this time will help out too.

If Sonny Bill was Catholic and giving up chocolate for lent, this wouldn't be a story.

Really, who gives a tinker's cuss that he's following his religion's doctrine?

Main reason I find it intriguing is that an elite athlete can't take any fluids before, during or after playing a physical match, giving up chocolate wouldn't hinder anybodies performance, and catholics pick and choose what they give up every year, one year it's chocolate, the next year it is certain type of chocolate, because they found out the year before that giving up all chocolate was to hard. Plus with lent, it is allowable to eat the thing you have given up on Sundays.

Nowhere near the level of sacrifice that Ramadan brings.

My point was that its because he follows Islam not the act itself. If he was a snake handler, it wouldn't be news.

When you give it up for lent you give it up for 40 days, you don't get to dabble on Sundays.

And Lent is not about 'giving up chocolate' either unless you are under the age of 8...
