I thought this place would have changed with all of our amazing success over the past year but I guess not. Amazing how my South Sydney loving bus driver tells me that Anthony is his all time favourite player but members of this very own forum sit in on judgement on him, game to game, waiting for the "I told you so moment!" They must be very insecure and have a need to validate their own little place in the world by throwing stones at an enduring champion. The man is human and very nearly did not make it back into the game after the back injury. He spends his spare time mentoring other younger players suffering similar injuries who are sometimes scared about their own futures and some on here get a thrill out of exposing chinks in his armour..shameful really..
RWB I appreciate your passion but really you miss the point.

Do you honestly think fans on here who may be critical of any player dislikes them personally?

Or questions the good things they do off the field?

Some on here take it much too serious when certain players are criticised. I find it even more funny when people get very defensive about certain players but are quick to stick the boot into others. Hypocrites????

And I'm not even talking about you RWB or Mini here, I'm just making a general point.

I mean FFS these are PROFESSIONAL athletes who earn millions of dollars over their careers. You really think they care what a bunch of nuffies like us say on the internet if they might have a poor game?

Thankfully Mini and the rest of the boys have much thicker skin than others on here.

    LOL

Anyway I would be very worried if any of our guys read this stuff, Gherkins posts alone would drive them mad.

End of the day I don't agree with what many say on here but it's an open forum. As long as posters don't get personal and they keep everything in good taste everyone's opinion should be welcomed. Then we can have decent discussion on something we all enjoy.

The other option is to just block.

    It works with Gherkin.

My problem is when some are judged differently to others.

Everyone makes errors. That's a fact. The players and coaches know this and the TEAM ethos means they cover for each other when such errors are made.

Some fans realise this. Some expect some players, the ones they don't want in the team, to be perfect. And when they aren't they hammer them. Mini, SKiDs, FPN, PearceOrf and a few others suffer this syndrome.

But the reality is you can't have a team of brilliant inform every week superstars. It doesn't exist.

Baloney and AV and $BW, before his suspension, were playing poorly. But no one seems to hammer them. Cos they are faves.

Only the usual suspects cop it from those with an agenda.

That's the facts mate. I've been pointing it out for years now. And I will continue to.

As for being soft I don't get it. I am willing to debate anything Easts or footy. I don't rubbish others opinions.

And the sense of rational logic is even stranger. Cos IMO logic says we are just fans not the coach. We can't pick the side or our faves every week. We aren't there in the inner circle. We don't know what is really going on. So we trust the coach and his proven track record. He wants Mini, SKiDs, FPN etc in his side. He won a comp backing them. That's the only logic I see.

Opinions are fine. But making sweeping judgements after round 3, especially when we are 2 from 3, and the defending premiers, IMO is out there. It actually IMO lacks logic cos we don't know the dynamics of the TEAM. We have to rely on the coach to do the job.

Strange post from you R6. But hey you're entitled to have the opinion I'm soft and void of any sense of rational logic. I guess I have the right to believe what I want. And that is I don't get it.

      Merry Christmas.

I never said you were soft I said your premise that we should just trust the coach is.

I've held my opinions for years now about Mini, has nothing to do with a couple of games a the start of the season so that's a bit of a cop out too.

I will say this, Robbo makes decisions on things fans don't ever have to consider like experience, leadership & team harmony. I trust Robbo in his processes, i.e he would never make a team selection on politics such as picking Mini because he's a club hero or the face of the game but I don't have to trust him that it's the right decision. Just that his processes in selection are fair and honest.

      • There is a fine line between offering a comment under the guise of 'opinion' and being a bitch for the sake of it and to get your 'I told you all so' moment in the sun. You only have to read or listen to what comes out of the keyboards or mouths of so called journalists these days. Very few write with intelligence and integrity these days. Most just want to take cheap shots or be inflammatory for the sake of it, not because they have a valid opinon to express.

This is in no way any put down of anyone in particular and especially the names you mentioned but I think that their view is very simplistic. It's like we have a pool of players ready to step in to take on the opposition OR we have the ability to buy a replacement for any player at anyone time in particular. If it's not Finch or Anasta, Pearce, SKD or Mini it will be for someone else next. Coaches take their time to make changes because they know there are consequences which ever way they go which is why TR plays with the team he feels he can get the results needed. As STSAE said, this thread was started to start an argument not to discuss the matter rationally.
This. There is nothing wrong with healthy debate on the subject. But this thread was sent as an 'up yours / I told you all so' type statement. The fact that the title is 'To all you Mini lovers' suggests it is a personal dig at those who steadfastly stick up for Mini through good or bad. The thread would not have been started at all had Mini had an incident free game.
For what it's worth I think Mini should have retired in glory at the end of last year. But as RTS is probably not quite ready to replace him fully in the fullback position just yet, the coach decided to keep Mini for another year. If RTS goes to fullback, I don't think we have a good enough replacement for the vacant wing spot just yet. Moga is still out injured, hasn't played for ages and was suspect in defence when he did play last. In any case we don't have enough experienced depth there yet.

My summer was quiet thank you but I did enjoy parading around in my very large collection of minor/major premiershop T-shirts annoying the Vermin Vaucluse Mafia who all seem to be now living in my area. Davos will be proud of me. Watched the Sunday 9's at the Clovelly Hotel and stsae would have been horrified at the number of bunnies stickers in the carpark and also down at Gordons Bay. I guess we are not in Kansas anymore..Haven't watched many other teams because to misquote Julia Roberts from My Best Friend's Wedding, why would you want jello when you can have creme brulee? Am enjoying Souths slip sliding away and the resurgence of St George for some long suffering friends of mine..the whingeing has stopped in the office for now..Went to the NRL Launch along with a couple of others from here and spent a good 10 mins talking to Remi. Lets just say his english is way better than my french..also ended up with my photo on the NRL facebook page but I'm blaming Mario for that one...hope everyone had a great summer and I'll look forward to seeing some of you in Bay 14 on Friday night...

Mate what you said there about trusting the coach and the process is exactly what I've been saying. Maybe it's been lost in translation or maybe I made an error in how I tried to express it, but that's exactly what I have been trying to convey.

Specifically as I've stated beforehand expierence, leadership and team harmony. IMO those three things have as much a bearing on our success as any factor. Hence SKiD and FPN to name two retaining their spots although their form at times has been indifferent.

I trust the coaches reasoning in re-signing Mini and in easing RTS into the FB role by them swapping during games.

But if the coach decides times up and it suits the team that RTS gets the FB spot permanently I would not complain and understand his reasoning for making such a decision.

As MR has said I suspect the coach doesn't think the lower graders are up to the task of replacing Mini as yet, hence his re-signing.

It's probably not the perfect solution but I'm guessing its a safer option, what is being done the swapping mid game, rather than blood a newbie that could damage both the team and individual in the long run.

I believe our opinions are closer than we first thought. The soft comment didnt bother me. I knew what you meant I was just making light of it by twisting it. I'm guilty there.

This threads timing and title IMO have pushed the debate in a direction I personally find pointless. It's much better debating the facts and discussing opinions.

I will say if my "knobs" comment offended anyone I apologise. It was just meant to be tounge in cheek, not as a personal insult to anyone, even the thread starter.

I will say I have/am the biggest "knob". Especially compared to Gherkins dill pickle.

I missed no point at all. The thread was started in an inflammatory and cheap manner. No learned opinion or constructive comments were made and is just plain embarrassing. And yes the players are aware of what is posted on here and so are their friends and families. Some of you are as dumb as a box of rocks if you think otherwise.
