Well based on this years NYC competition, where Buhrer and Baiteri were far and away the best attacking locks (Fensom was not eligible this season):

Buhrer does a fair bit more work in attack - Baiteri averages around 15 runs for 120 metres, Buhrer averages around 17 runs for 130 metres - and Buhrer also made 6 linebreak assists, 11 linebreaks and 108 tackle breaks in 26 games, compared to Baiteri's 3 linebreak assists, 4 linebreaks and 61 tackle breaks in 24 games. However, Baiteri really shines ahead of Buhrer is the tackling department, where Buhrer only averages around 23 tackles per game, whereas Baiteri averages 32 per game. Also, Baiteri has more than double the offloads in less games than Buhrer, something that our forward pack is definitely lacking.

Fensom was outstanding last season, being better than Buhrer in attack (25 games, average 16 runs for 128 metres, 19 linebreaks, 104 tackle breaks), and as good as Baiteri in defence (average 31 tackles per game), but has played this season in QLD Cup, so I have been unable to check his progress. He is a machine though.

ok so im now happy to say that fensom is probably the best of the three but baiteri offers plenty - linebreaks etc are unnecessary - i will take the extra offloads and tackles - thats a locks job. In terms of metres, if buhrer is making 2 more runs a game for only 10 more metres whereas baiteri is making a couple less runs and about 10 more tackles, a great investment. I will find out more in the ensuing days - i know jasons manager quite well and keep you blokes posted

This is the best signing for next year we've made IMO. This bloke is exactly what we need and more. I've followed his progression through the juniors with a lot of interest and I've always rated him in the top bracket of players around his age. He missed chunks of last season with consecutive long term injuries and this year was a much needed season for him to find some form again. He captained Parramatta's SG Ball team to a premiership in 2007 and was also named Player of the Championships at Nationals the same year and went on to captain the Australian Schoolboys in 2007 as well. He will turn out to be better than Jamie Buhrer and Shaun Fensom IMO. He works very hard on the pitch and never stops tackling and taking hit-ups. This is the type of backrower we've been lacking for next year and O'Sullivan has certainly signed a gem in this kid. He can definitely for those that want to know but he usually has the mentality to do all the dirty work in the middle that nobody else wants to do. We've got some absolute gun juniors in our system and it's just a matter of time before we have a culture like the one they have down in Melbourne. I am very excited about the next few years and you all should be too.

wow. Thanks mate great news! With this in mind, where do you see mitch aubusson as part of our setup? Both baiteri and maubs are too small for backrow so they are both genuine locks, what would be the go considering maubs doesnt have a spot in the backline or at least wont once blair, williamson, linett, moeakiola du plessis and this new young country kid we just signed make the grade.

Manly had Glenn Stewart and Steve Menzies in the backrow, they have also had Chris Bailey and Shane Rodney, all small blokes.

Nowadays, the size of the backrow isn't too much of an issue so long as they do their roles well.

no but we are talking about baiteri - 175cm, 90kgs and maubs - 183cm, between 90 and 95kgs (but built like a back). Both too small and not well built enough imo irrespective of height. Stewart is built much more solidlyas is chris bailey and menzies at least at the height on these two

Baiteri and Morbs will both bulk up to around 95-100kg soon, IMO.

this is how i see our backrow down the track:
                  11. Cherrington/Leilua
                  12. Cordner
                  13. Maubs/Baiteri

                  BENCH
                  Symonds

As you can see, we will need to choose between the two

I agree on Cherro/Leilua, Cordner and Symonds. Maybe Morbs will end up being a specialist centre after all?

Who knows, this is a very good problem to have IMO.

yea i agree but i cant see maubs as a centre. You find him a spot amongst du plessis, williamson, linnett, blair, that stanley bloke we just signed along with players like waqa and skd who may be best suited to centres or maybe even pez. As you can see, i really cant see him anywhere but lock. I agree though, good problem to have

One more player for Mack to add to his 29 man bench.

I'm just glad to see another Hills Bulls player in the mix, love seeing the local boys up there.

John Williams, David Williams, Jason Baiteri, Jame Buhrer, Domenic Nasso...all Hills boys!

At 175 cm, how big do you want him to get ? Understand, every kilo he gains will greatly impact his mobility and acceleration. 95kg is the heaviest the guy should ever be.

As with Maubs, 95kg is perfect for him.

Lets not fantasize about the perfect world where every forward is 6,2" and 110 kg.
