Extremely high workrate lock-forward - HE is the sort of player that can fill Fitzgibbon's role.
Not much size about him, but mobile, tremendously fit, a great offload and can tackle all day long, check out these stats:
24 games (22 at lock, 2 at prop), 5 tries, 4 linebreaks, 3 linebreak assists, 1 try assist, 50 offloads, 61 tackle breaks, average 15 runs for 119 metres, average 32 tackles for 3 missed
Not as good as Shaun Fensom (Raiders) or Jamie Buhrer (Manly) - they have similar workrates but those two break the line a fair bit more - but still one of the standout NYC players definitely. Had Jamie Buhrer not been there, Baiteri would have been a shoe-in for NYC Lock Of The Year.

How many times have you actually watched those 3 guys you just mentioned play?
Also, unlike this season where we signed average NYC players Tu'u Maori and Sonny Tuigamala, neither of whom were standouts at all, we have signed Baiteri, Waerea-Hargreaves, Linnett and Naughton (to a lesser extent), all of whom are relatively high in the ranks of potential AND performance for their respective positions.

Baiteri is actually a friend's mate, Oakhill College is one of the local schools and so I have trekked out to Parra to see him play a few times. Great leader on the field.
Buhrer and Fensom - well Manly and Raiders NYC teams have gotten loads of coverage for the U20's teams, and Buhrer has figured in all NYC games for Manly this year. Not a bit guy, but has nice ball skills, can pass sharply, has a massive workrate of around 130 metres a game, and is a good defender. Almost exactly like Glenn Stewart in size and playing style.
Fensom was similar last year, probably was a harder runner of the ball and could break the line better, but also had a great workrate and loads of aggression too. Reminds me a LOT of a young Anthony Watmough.
Baiteri looks and plays a very similar game to Laffranchi. Loads of runs and tackles, can control the ruck, isn't really a go-forward man but has great ball skills. Had one particularly outstanding game this year where he made 25 runs for 300 metres, 36 tackles for 2 missed, plus a linebreak and try. Only failed to make 100 metres in 7 games out of the 24 he played.

Is he really as small as his profile says? That'd be my biggest question mark over him, although then again mitch Aubusson isn't that big either. Sounds like he might play that Tongue/Stagg/Hilder role.

Do you think there is any coincidence between Smith stating that Anasta is not his preferred lock, and Baiteri, a specialist lock, being signed by us?
He probably does intend on using Baiteri like Matt Hilder, David Stagg, Alan Tongue or Glenn Stewart. He is a bit bigger now though, up to around 95 kg. Strong enough bloke to play prop at a pinch though.

do you think baiteri has the ball playing capabilities of stewart though. I have not seen enough of him to judge but he appears to be quite one dimensional. good signing never the less imo
No, he does not have the ballplaying ability of Stewart. However, with Carney, Braith, Pearce, Friend and Jones being in the team, we wouldn't need that from him.
I think definitely more in the Hilder/Stagg style of play - mobile, lots of tackles, useful if not somewhat limited in attack (definitely thinking along the lines of Stagg here, not a metre-eater but still has a good workrate and a useful offload too).
I am very happy with this signing, honestly. Baiteri fits the style of play attributed with most modern locks like Glenn Stewart, Corey Parker, Nathan Stagg, Ash Harrison, Alan Tongue, Todd Lowrie, Nathan Smith and Matt Hilder - good mobile defenders, with useful attacking skills and versatility.
Note that I did not mention players like Steve Southern, Dallas Johnson and Michael Luck, as these blokes are pretty much defense-only.

ok so he does have a tidy attacking game - thats good news imo and if so, im very pleased as what I have seen corrolates with what you have said in terms of his defence etc. If he doesnt offer much more than that then I dare say maubs would be a better option at lock but a tidy signing no doubt. Would you take him over buhrer and fensom?? Of the 3 who would you have signed - I reckon we should have tacken the best one of these three as their respective clubs are well covered in this domain imo
