Another poster pointed out in another thread how EVERY team feels they've been cheated by the referees. How true.

This, from the comments section on the SMH match report, from a disgruntled Merge fan:

Nasals, you must be kidding it was the most inept display of refereeing this season and most of the calls went to the team that is sitting in second place on the ladder. It reached an all time low when two Roosters players collided in mid air yet somehow earnt their team a penalty. Very hard to watch my team at the moment, but even worse when I have to sit in the cold and watch two referees who are not suitable for first grade

So there you have it. Some believe had it not been for the tremendous leg up we received from the match officials, we would not have beaten our opponents last night.

Biased ref decision cost us the 2010 title and will again if someone doesn't straighten the bastards out.

When you've won just a handful of penalty counts in the last 5 years its becomes a bit more than a feeling!

I'm no Coward fan but you'd have to think the coach has put his head on the chopping block by getting rid of Jamieeeeee before the end of the year considering they are struggling to look like scoring tries.

They have zero spark.

And very little mention of the lopsided penalty count, but this is hardly suprising.

Agree with what you are saying the outcome from that penalty had minimal impact on that get out set 10m gained and a better restart point. I think if anything tended to effect the referees thinking about whether we were perceived to have had gained a significant advantage from their mistake and its impact on 50/50 calls.

What is of more concern is this is a blatantly obvious example of the lack of intensity in refereeing since the introduction of the two ref situation. Two of the three officials should of and had reasonable time to position themselves for a view of the contest.

I dont think theres any referee conspiracy against us. We've been an ill disciplined side since the Stuart era. We need to focus more on discipline, turf the victim mentality. Do that, and the gap in class between souffs and us becomes even more skinny.

Just in case you're serious and not just trolling, you have missed the point.

It's not about Easts' discipline, it's about sides like merge who only give away 1 penalty per half even though they are being thrashed. It's happened for years. When you use words like victim and conspiracy, you try unsuccessfully to make those of us who want to know why this happens look foolish.

If you have a plausible explanation for how a side can concede 1 or 3 penalties per match, when they are playing the second placed team and they are themselves wooden spoon contenders, then post it.

Trolling is so dull.

It does frustrate the hell out of me how North Queensland has a +17 penalty differential so far this season whilst looking and playing as one of the lazier and poorer coached teams, whilst we once again hover is dead last with a -28 differential after improving out of sight and looking one of the most powerful and well coached teams.

The referees just see the game within their own little bubble, have done for nearly a decade now.

EDIT: After this round we will be at a staggering -34 penalty differential, absurd.

It really worries me that come the bigger games the penalty count will cruel us. The refs still have this perception that we are an "ill disciplined" team. The commentators constantly refer to us an "ill disciplined" team. It now seems (highly unfairly) that we are stuck with it. We are a thousand times better than we used to be but still get caned. We've improved in every other facet of the game except penalties given. A -34 penalty differential just beggars belief. Just about every team we play are perfect despite the fact we are dominating. It just doesn't make sense and I'm bloody sick of it (not the winning results though). It should make it more satisfying but it's been going on for so long now that I'm really worried come finals time a job will be done on us.....
