Saying that, dan had no other option to take the pressure off him.
But like I said I still think he had a pretty good game and im glad we have him in our squad
Good post and so true. PearceOrf would've been assassinated if he put in a performance like that with the boot.

The bolded line, it's actually a lot like PearceOrf for most of his career with Bwaiff at his side.

Mortimer had a good game considering it was his first start at halfback in a long time.

But his kicking game was very ordinary, and as has been said, if Pearce had put in half as many nothing kicks as Daniel, there would have been 12 threads about him being shit, 5 about Wayne being his dad and two others about handing back memberships.

That will give Morts a lot of confidence and hopefully he'll have a big impact coming off the bench in the future.

On a related note, I would like to see Friend kick more. His 40/20 was a cracker, and it adds a huge dimension to a team's game when the dummy half can kick (see Melbourne). Last night especially, he could have taken more pressure of Morts.

Morts is true value. Anyone who can step in and play the organising role to the quality he did last night is phenominal. We are most lucky. IMHO he should have been MOM.
There are games where he is wastd on the bench but I feel that could be attributed to how the game is played. I'd love for a Big Bopper to fill the final spot on the bench when we play teams like the vermin.
But that is kinda why I love this kid - he always puts the team ahead of his needs and I think thta's why Robbo loves him.
He is courageous and a smaller version of the Mower.
Fans love a player with heart..

Special credit to FPN, RTS, Friend, & Napa(lm). Earned 1-2 weeks off for getting the biter back. The guy has heart. Don't let him go.

And I congratulate SKD for running straight; securing a try before trying to promote the position (like last week). His defense looked shakey as he still runs backwards and SBW did do alot of covering in D for him. You deserved the 2 tries for perserverence!

Morts [and those running off him] needs to be very careful that the passses aren't forward.
          Ditto Maloney and Pearce.

          It could cost us bigtime.

I agree with your post mate but IMO Maubs, Mortein, Gurrera, MLK, pLOD, Lui deserve all the big wraps.

Those blokes have worked as hard as anyone this season.

They've again stepped up at short notice and have shown there's no I in TEAM.

The coach is showing some very good qualities.

IMO benches and bit players/lesser lights are what win comps. Look at Melba for the best example.

            We have some depth now.

Gotta Agree with you, Backwards. Just thought I'd limit who I praised in this post. Perhaps we should ask, who didn't play well. Perhaps Toups had a quiet match. Mini played well as Dessie clear instructed them to keep the ball low to get Mini to bend his back.

Good summation of the players performances last night.
All stepped up & played as a team. Toups will get better with each game & finds his place.

Minis best game IMO this year.

Made a few very good tackles and his reads on the rolling ball have improved dramatically.

His only problem is when he tries to overplay his hand. If he just does his job he is still our best option at the back this season.

                  Great effort all round.

The coach really has them playing as a unit.

I thought that little kickoff in the last minute he did was well thought out. He didn't try to smash it or go for huge hang time or look for touch, just a nicely weighted kick in to an empty patch of grass the ball bounced a few times by the time the dogs got to it the ball the game was just about over. Very smart play.

Mortimer throws two nice passes and he's the messiah........shouldn't have expected anything else on here.

Haha agree. His game last night was good nothing better. The ball he threw for Boyds 2nd was good but the try was created by the dogs terrible read in defence. Happy he had a good game, deserves it. It's good to know that if Pearce or Maloney get injured we have someone who can more then handle taking up the reins

I think that it's a fair debate on which half is better tbh. People on here for the last 12 months have grossly underestimated Daniel Mortimer's ability as a playmaker but from what I personally have seen of him, whether it be off the bench and into dummy half, or in the halves during origin, he hasn't disappointed often. Even when he was playing in reggies, he looked way too good for NSW cup.

It's no mistake that he played in a grandfinal. His career, like many others, has imo been stunted by the grandfinal loss of 09' which they should have rightfully won, were the storm not cheats. If memory serves correct, in 2009 he had an outstanding season, the start to his career was similar to what foran and reynolds had in their first season. He was breaking the line often, and setting up heaps of trys . After losing the gf and a few of their gf players, Hayne losing form, and signing some massive lemons, it all started to go south for parra.

Fans can be very harsh and critical but Robbo seems to see something in him, which is why he told him to stay. After the win on friday in the presser, he attributed the team's success on Friday to Morts handling himself in a big occasion.
                              Comment of the year:

Andrew Johns, Semi-Final vs North Queensland ,

"It's touched Lui's hand and travelled forward but that's not a knock on"

Mortimer threw two good passes. His kicking game was terrible, and I barely saw his running game, not to mention he isn't much in defence.
But yes, let's drop the incumbent NSW halfback for a kid that's living even more off his surname than his predecessor is.
