He is better than what we have, simple as that.
i agree, after all he was coached by nathan brown, kinda like being coached by fittler....

i think if he is coached by a reknowned disiplinariend like brian smith, maybe he can improve on those stats.

anyone got his stats in england??

      Bingo..

He has been a very solid prop for many years but does make some crucial mistakes at critical times as previously stated..

But compared to Stanley Waqa, Frank-Paul-drop-the-ball, and Lopini Paea, Ryles is a prop god...

I still think this Hargraves from Manly will be our starting prop by the end of next season..

He looks big and mean with good hands..

          Games 17
          Errors 11
          Penalties 16
          Ave Metres 125
          Ave Tackles 25

A 1 or 2 year signing would be good as experience up front after the loss of O'Meley is required

Also I'd like to see Myles moved to the 2nd row as it provides the starch and toughness our pack has lacked since Mozz was starting in our second row and allows a wide running ball playing second rower to start.

This year, no we have not.

                  Compare the packs:

                  2009

                  Paea
                  Friend
                  Myles
                  Mason
                  Fitzgibbon
                  Soliola

                  J Aubusson/Jones
                  Symonds
                  Shackleton
                  Nuuausala

                  2010

                  Paea
                  Friend
                  Ryles
                  Mason
                  Myles
                  Anasta

                  J Aubusson/Jones
                  Symonds
                  Waerea-Hargreaves
                  Nuuausala

So essentially, we are replacing Soliola with Anasta in the pack, replacing Shackleton with Waerea-Hargreaves (who I definitely rate ahead of Martin Kennedy, Stanley Waqa and Mose Masoe), and replacing Fitzgibbon with Ryles. Hmm...

liking it mate, except id replace maubs with mason and have mase on the bench as an impact player, when he is usually at his best. maubs defence on sunday proved he is a solid second rower.

i dont think there is a place for jaubs or jones either.... jaubs is the worst hooker iv ever seen, and jones has no position in the team...

I just don't see Jones making the 17 come Round One next season, although Smith might use him as the utility on the bench instead of a genuine hooker like James Aubusson. But if he is best suited to centre, I'd rather Ryan Williamson there or Tom Symonds to partner Mitch Aubusson. Obviously with Carney coming to the club, Jones won't play five-eighth so I see him playing in the NYC for a good part of the year, unless injuries strike and he is called back up. He is of NRL standard but he is more a depth player with some of the players we've got in his position.

I'd be more inclined to play him for Newtown. He can at least play against bigger and older blokes. It would be like playing Pearce or Friend in U20's this year. Jones played 21 first grade games this year, out of a possible 24. The three rounds he missed (Rd 1, Rd 4, Rd 7) he played in the U20s.

Jones has shown more spark this season than Jorbs did last season AND this season. If Friend is going well, Jones can always come on in the centres, with Mitch Aubusson moving into the halves. The only issue is his defensive technique, but at least he has a bit of pace and skill (unlike Jorbs who seems to be going in slow motion).

The best think about this is that there is at least potential for competition for pos'ns, unlike this yr.
Jones and Jaubs will fight out the utility bench spot, imho.
Jake has probably gone past Jaubs, and so he's now under a lot of pressure. I expect him to respond with a lot of tackles, for any opportunity he gets.
Both those Aub's boys seem very determined to succeed, and i think Smith likes that type of player.

Jake is easily our starting hooker...
I like the look of Jones, the second half of the year he showed some good stuff in attack.
Jaubs is probably on a last chance to show what he did at Melbourne.
Barring injuries, competition for positions should be good next season.

Jake will be our starting hooker. A standout in that position and I hope we don't get Degoise. If Jake needs a rest, I wouldn't mind seeing Jonesy play a bit of hooker. His speed from dummy half could be very useful when the forwards get tired. I don't think hooker is Jaubs' best position. I'd like to see him tried as a lock and make those 40-50 tackles a game which he is quite capable of and which we will be desperate to find.

Jaubs lock, Anasta centre maybe? Anasta could make a good defensive centre, he's not the quickest bloke going around but has the passing game to put points on out wide.
