  • Friend / Mortimer

How long was Mortimer on in the second half?

I'm a Mortimer fan, but that ruck defence in the second half was abysmal.

Am I right in thinking it totally went to shit when Friend went off?

we need to take in 4 forwards against the bigger packs.
friend shouldn't have been taken off imo. in a situation where youre being mowed down, it would've been better if he stayed on and provided a bit more resilience in defence. that extra sub could've been used on a fresh forward in the last 5 or so minutes.

Friend went off about 60min mark.
Morts went well never missed a tackle just goes low and chops them down. Problem is they can get that quick roll on
N going because he can't slow the ruck down a little bit.
I think Friend was getting real lazy at that stage anyway

Yeh that was a big factor.

A few of the guys had to play longer minutes and they struggled.

It just seemed our markers were on the ground all night.

            Losing a lock is trouble.

I was thinking the same thing. Morts does well but why bring Friend off if all is going well.

its a good combination. im surprised robbo hasnt used them at the same time this year yet. I thought that was quite effective as jake certainly has the frame and defensive attributes to play as a loose forward while in attack it allows friend and mortimer the opportunity to play off the ruck and keeps teams guessing

Friend should not kick the ball. We have maloney and pearce.

Cord re going down is a massive reason we lost IMO. NRL reallly needs an emergency sub ala the AFL for situations like this.

When attempting a 40/20 , it is most successful from hooker...less time for wingers and fullback to react
but **** at least wait til mortimor comes on then try, or have a set play where pearce goes into hooker for one tackle every set and only randomly go for it

Friend is a terrible kicker. What makes matters worse, no one knows he is going to kick! He just makes a last second decision without communicating. Therefore terrible kick is compounded by a poor chase!

                            I think that's the point

If he could actually kick the ball without slicing it every damn time he might be half useful as no one has any clue when he's going to kick it, haha.

I was a fan of having Morts on the bench but I'm not so sure now.

It really does leave us a forward short, I think we have enough players in our team to cover positions if there is an injury so we don't really need an all out utility on then bench.

Also, there's no point in bringing Morts on after 60 mins just for the sake of it. If the game doesn't warrant his inclusion then don't put him on, simple as that (not blaming the loss on him) but it seems like as soon as the hour passes he comes on
