  • Why Liu over Evans?

Does anyone have any idea why Liu was chosen over Evans to play against the Eels and again for this week?

To me it looks like Evans has been playing stellar for the Jets, why has Liu been picked ahead of him?

Not sure, but after his effort last night I am glad they did.

I love it when clubs are very hesitant to give debuts to kids unless they are absolutely ready. Mentally and physically. Maybe that's why. Kane is very tall but maybe they want a bit more from him against men in reserves. I have seen plenty of him in 20s and saw him lumber up to the line a lot. Has a great offload but certainly does not appear to hit the line as hard as Moa and those boys. I thought Liu was terrific.

I am still asking myself this question. Liu is a decent player but he is no Kane Evans imo. This was the perfect opportunity to give him a game. To me it still seems like we delayed an inevitable (Evans debuting) for no reason - this was a great opportunity lost

Has to be his defence and if it is I'm in support of the decision.

Who cares... LOD will punt both of them next week.

Was mentioned in the coverage in his intro his strength in defence. He has spent a bit more time in NSW cup as well hasn't he?

Lui looked bigger than I thought he'd be.. Was the first time I've seen him play in person. Was pleasantly surprised with how he charged onto the ball and wasn't dominated.

It seems Robbo can do no wrong in decision making.

Only bad thing is when they called him "Issac Loo" I vomited a little

I thought Lui was pretty solid last night.

From what I've seen of Isaac he is an extremely shy young man.

I don't think he'll ever have a problem with his ego.

At this stage they have slight concerns about Kane's defence.

But be patient people, he'll get a chance at some stage.

Liu (and I think it is pronounced Loo) was actually our best prop during the trials, so it wasn't totally left field.

Knowing how much Isaac earns, he is without doubt great value. The poor guy.

If he can keep running hard, defending strong and showing good discipline in the ruck then he may very well become a mainstay in first grade. It's at this point that people will start to see where his real talent lies and that is in his offloading game. He's pretty quick for a tight forward too and we got to see his line running and support on show in the trials. I think Evans might start in first grade as a bench second rower running on the edge. He didn't get to train much in the off season due to injury so his fitness would not be up to the that of the rest of the team. We all know robinson is a defensive minded coach. And he'd know that even though Evans may add a lot in attack you're only as strong as your weakest link. Kane's time will come if he keeps working hard on his fitness. But in the meantime I'm backing Liu will more than get the job done.

Liu is off contract this year iirc.

A few good games could seal him a nice pay rise.
