You've either got it or you haven't.

He had it as a young bloke and lost it through all this coaching shemozzles at the club .He definatelt was brought into grade too young but at the time we had nothing.
His bad habits come from years of bad coaching.
He is probably close to the fastest in the club too .We dont get too see that.
he can make the changes step by step square up in attack as the way he stand s you know where the ball is going and him for that matter ... a little more depth would help.
His support play is non existant and in a team with a few ball players he should be bopping up every where.
Ive seen him play a s a young bloke with the u20's etc and he was dynamite he would run that ball and they couldnt catch him .
He right now needs a good mentor .

I don't think he ever had it, maybe at junior level but as we know it's a huge step to NRL. Pearce will go down in history as the worst halfback to ever play for NSW.

Finch is a much better player than Pearce.

He is really quick over 100 but I'm not sure he is so quick over the first 40 which is where it counts.

even the first 10 or 20 would be good. His problem is also his footwork, which is poor. He has a telegraphed, slow, step and for some reason he seems to stumble when he tries to take the line on. I'm happy to give him time under the new coach and to give him the benefit of the doubt re Brian Smith etc etc, but if he hasn't really improved by the 2nd half of this season then I don't reckon he ever will

It's funny because that line gets trotted out every year.

I agree. His first few steps aren't sharp but like ticket has said he is actually very quick over 40-50 metres. He has run in some great long range tries for us.

I keep saying Pearce's problems are between the ears, he has the talent. Every coach that has worked with him club or rep love him and don't forget Des has tried to poach him more than once. So he must have something there.

Like I said above the problem is he gets flustered easily and makes stupid decisions under pressure. Which to be honest is probably exactly what you don't want as a halfback.

Big year for him. The excuses are gone if he doesn't improve I will be calling for his head too.

True mate. But in halfback's years he is still young, new coach and new players.

Give him a few months, if it doesn't happen I will be the first to say you were right.

He has to play more patiently and more methodically. Play one off but go back a metre. Too many
He rushes everything. He doesn't build pressure for us. We make their 20 and every team and all of us know it will be a bomb out wide to wingers who always get beaten to the ball.
The good halfbacks play with time - Thurston, Cronk, Cherry Evans, Alfie, Johns,
No more flat hospital passes. Creativity ....... please.
This thread is a waste of time when the muppet hasn't learned from the 72397 threads previously.

Yeah it is that first 10 metres that counts.. This is where guys with that quick acceleration like Jennings can burst through a hole. Pearce is actually quick over a long distance and that is why he is hard to catch when he gets the ball in support backing up a break or able to keep pace in defence with some real flyers.
