there is a difference between toughening up and trying to kill them.
yesterday was the hottest day sydney had ever seen. ever.
quite simply, their bodies wouldnt know how to deal with the situation. theyve never experienced it before. having them train in the morning was tough, having them train in 46 degree heat is suicide.

These blokes are professionals, they get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars, they should be able to put up with an hour of punishment in the heat.

Doctors, trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, nutritionists- plus all the water, gatorade and food you could need.......so what's the problem with running around in the sun for an hour?

I agree ...but with one proviso...not if its a history breaking 45 degrees...all bets are off then...does more harm than good to the body.

IMO fitness is everything it is the foundation.... poor fitness leads to fatigue leads to poor discipline leads to poor balls skills leads to errors which leads to penalties....it all goes hand in hand.
If we dont run out fit rnd1 we are gone regardless of the line up

This old school train of thought that training in extreme heat like that is character building and develops superior fitness is bullshit. More harm will come from the players suffering heat stroke then from whatever fitness gains they'll get from that particular session. The body reacts very differently in extreme heat when put under duress, flog them all you want when it is at a more manageable temperature.

Yeh maybe for a bunch of netballers.
The coaches and staff know what the players can handle.

It wouldn't have been 46 when they were training in the morning. As long as you rehydrate and cool the body there will be no ill effects!

Very well but how many incidents like this have happened since.
Danny Shepard got sick during a game. You cannot simulate the intensity and physicality of an actual game at training.
I don't want the guys feeling sick. I just want them fitter than the opposition.

The only positive to come out of training in the heat is mental toughness.

Physically, there is nothing to be gained because dehydration occurs at such a quick rate that the players gas almost instantly.
