We should head into the 2013 season roughly 1.2 million dollars under the salary cap. With the cap due to rise a further 500k in 2014 and SBW only likely to stay here for another year that leaves us with roughly 2.2 million dollars to play with for 2014 and beyonds.

Don't forget that we have key personnel such as Mitchell Pearce and Boyd Cordner to re-sign for next season and beyond. I'm sure others are off contract however this could be to free up room for re-signings including Sonny Bill Williams.

Last year we got to an irritating stage VERY early on where we had to win every week just to retain out bottom-8 spot. Making the 8 would have involved ridiculous amounts of consecutive wins and the cards falling our way with other games.

Optimism is great...
New year, new coach, new players...etc. 2013 COULD be a good year whereas 2012 was gone after the first 8-10 games.

Good points man. Some guys don't worry about early losses but I love to see us with a great win/loss record after say 10 rounds. It just makes it so much easier to make the 8. Of course you still want them to be playing well at the business end of the year but it is much better than having to do mathematics too early in the season.

I think it's always better to have a new coach and some new players at the start of new year for a brand new start of the season. But their should be some comprehensive long term planning about the game to take it for next few years. As it always not easy to start with new things and new plannings.
