I am only a junior footy coach, never played dummy half and when it comes down to it I am just another punter. But I would think to be effective from dummy half you would need consistency in game plan and tactics. I watch cam smith and all his effective plays come on the back of exactly the same platforms... Wether it's one, two, three, four forwards kick early look for 40/20 or field position. Or play right of ruck, play left of ruck, play right again, then throw an outside ball to inside ball at them. Or wait for that roll on to run, where might I add he always has support. Regardless his effective plays always come on the back of that well known/learnt platform/timing/structure.
Did we ever have consistency or platform plays under brian smith? Friend copped it big time for going blind all the time. At any stage Brian smith could have instructed him to 'put it away'. But tbh smith coached it into him.

The incoming coaches need to address & help improve the service from dummy-half particularly the speed & decision making, whether it be Jake, Nafe etc. The best attacking teams are very effective in this area. Cam Smith is the benchmark IMO.

i did play a fair bit of dummy half, my only anti friend comment is that he stands up before passing, is it a physical difficulty passing crouched for him or ishis eyesight impeded? both problems could be addressed by a real coach, his standing up slows down a fast play the ball also alerts the defence to his intentions!nothing wrong witrh going the blind, just not all the time? i seem to think braith called a lot of those plays to the blindside?
