Anasta is made of the right stuff on the field and off.
I hope he stays until he retires
Exactly, with the departure of Fitzy he's one of the few stabilising influences we have in our playing roster.
And even when injured, the bloke has never lacked heart in the RW&B.
Whether Carney arrives or not, we need Anasta as part of our starting 13 as captain and leader. There is no other senior player in our club capable of taking on that role.

Im not a fan of Bwaiffs abilities as a playmaker under pressure, ive made that point clear.
But his efforts for our colours and his attitude I cant question. Ive been told by many I respect of the work hes done behind the scenes, his passion for the cause and the fans, his attitude and its all been 1st class.
I have no problem with Bwaiff playing for us, even his role as captain.
I just wonder IF Toad arrives as expected where does Bwaiff fit in??? I dont believe he can play lock, the workload in defence especially.
IMO its going to be very interesting to see how Smiff juggles the 1/2s and lock positions next season.
Braith can work on improving his defensive workload during the offseason if the Drunkard arrives and he has to move into the forwards.
Defensive work tend to revolve around the right attitude and that's something that Braith has never lacked.
It's not only Braith that needs to improve his defensive workoad, our whole forward pack needs to pick up their defensive workrate, to offset the loss of Fitzy.

if we keep him then cut his pay, he is not that important and does not set the world on fire. He is a average club player. He is on 3-400k a season or somthing ?

Maybe NC, maybe.
I would worry Bwaiffs too old to change his role that much. Not saying he cant, I just doubt hed be capable.
Macks banged on for ages now we need a workhorse. Hes right, we had Ricko and Fitzy now we have no-one. I reckon Maubs is young enough to make the step, like Ricko did at his age.
I just think at Bwaiffs age it wouldnt really work.

It's going to be very interesting how he is going to fit all of those options into the halves. If you use the Knights as an example Smith has changed his halves combination at times weekly. Some weeks Mullen, Rogers and Dureau have all been used off the bench and been bought on after 20 minutes. We could have a situation where maybe Anasta starts at 5/8 then we bring Carney or Pearce off the bench and Anasta would move to 13.
I think it is a good thing that we have different combinations and options for next season. There are always injuries so it's important to have depth in the key areas.
Looking at Smith's teams at different clubs he hasn't had great halves but the teams have ultimately been successful. Parra in 01 had a combination of Taylor and Buetner. Taylor was nothing more then a steady player who could lead a team around the park. Buetner was a converted centre who had good pace and was a good support player. Brian Smith teams tend to be skillful across the park. He likes mobile forwards who have the ability to use the ball at the line. What I like about Smith is that all of his sides play an expansive game. We will not see the same predictable shit we have had to put up with this season.
I've said many times on here that I'm a big fan of Brian Smith. He has a good record of developing young talent. I like what Gorden Tallis said how he was privileged to have Brian Smith at the start of his career and Bennett after that. He said how Smith had a great knowledge of the game and was able to teach young players the skills and professionalism of 1st grade. He said if he could go back he would want the same thing to be coached by Smith at the start of his career and then to play under Bennett.
The signing was a good move for us and Smith. We need his discipline and I think he would see us as an oppurtunity to win something. It is probably the first time he has gone to a big club who has the money and facilities to achieve that goal.

Problem is, we can only move Maubs from the centres to the forwards if the Club actually buys some quality outside backs. Otherwise, we are very limited for options there and need to keep Maubs where he currently is.
I know Mack and others rave about some of our young outside backs, but they are an unknown quality and can't be depended upon to start the season at least.

Yeh maybe we should give it to one of our of more deserving players... oh shit. Ok maybe we'll just buy someone seeing as it's worked so well for us in the past.
I'm happy with what Braith is getting, credit to the club on and off the field.

But hey I really hope im wrong here.
I think that Braith, just like you said, is a great wholehearted player who DOES bleed the Red, White and Blue. He is the new Fittler IMO, whether people think so or not. Remember he is still young, at the age of 30 he will be killing it, especially with the pack developing. Just needs to keep his cool in pressure situations.
That is why I am critical of the Carney signing. It will shift Braith to lock, and that will in turn drastically effect the defensive capabilities of our pack.
I agree about Morbs = Ricko. Maybe if that happens, we can stick Sa out in the centres. But we don't have a Fitzy replacement, which is why we will make do with Conn for now, and then blood in big Boyd as the man to take the reins.

If we are getting Carney then Anasta is not worth what he is on now as his role would not be as important. We could use that money to buy what we need some outside backs.
If we keep him imo it will end up being :To many chiefs not enough indians

Boyd Cordner will be the new Fitzy, he just needs two more years to develop a bit more before he can have an impact in the NRL. He has the right attitude and attributes to be a successful player for us in years to come. Also I think Mitchell Aubusson is a backrower as his workrate is high and his defensive game is pretty solid. Ryan Williamson will be blooded in the NRL next year. He is a very good player but needs confidence. He has not set the NYC alight but has had a very disruptive season. Braith Anasta is a top player as well, though his form this season has been solid without being outstanding. I honestly think Daniel Conn was a waste of a signing. I think we have enough backrowers who are capable of getting the job done. Maybe we should have bought an outside back but as has been mentioned before on the forum, we've got some good young outside backs to develop and when they are ready for the big time next year or the year after, we need them to come straight into our team instead of maybe lighting up the NYC and getting poached and then shining for another club. It's all about the future now and that's how we should keep on approaching things.
Like I said, Conn is a stopgap signing until Cordner is ready, I believe.
Cordner is signed until 2012, and Conn is signed until 2011. I believe midway through 2011, Cordner should begin to be giving sporadic opportunities, and then when Conn's contract is finished at the end of 2011, we should extend Boyd's contract and watch him flourish into one of the best backrowers in the NRL.
I have serious faith in that kid. I have seen some young talent come and go, but he is something else. He DOMINATED games in a competition where he is the youngest player. And not just in the backs, it was in the forward pack. I do think that Isaac Maliota, Ethan Lowe and Dane Cordner are all solid too, but Boyd, as I said, just has something, that special something.
On a side note, Williamson had a blinder last week. Now has 7 tries, and 7 linebreaks in 7 games. Just needs to up his workrate and find some pace again IMO.
