Unfortunately Mini might be the undoing of our promising 2013.
We have somethings to look forward to next year.....Mini in the team is not one of them imo.
Mini as Captain would be the icing to that nightmare cake.

As we don't have a real standout for captain, I like the idea of co-captains with choosing the best two of Kennedy, Pearce, Cordner, SBW or Maloney.
As excited as I am about SBW and Maloney coming here next year, I don't think that either will fit into the captaincy role.

A captain is not just a good player, but also a leader both on and off the park. He also needs to have spent an extended period of time at the club previously, learning the culture of the club.

Another point to think of is the future of the player if they are brought in as captain, and the amount of time they will spend at your club. For mine I'd pick between Cordner and Marty, mainly because both were brought to the club at the age of 16, and both have progressed nicely and still have a long time left to go in their careers. Aubo also seemed like a nice fit at the start of the year but his form hasn't been up to par and we don't want another under performing captain.

But FFS, please uncle nick, don't let mini be captain.
          Comment of the year:

Andrew Johns, Semi-Final vs North Queensland ,

"It's touched Lui's hand and travelled forward but that's not a knock on"

I think the fans also deserve respect and that we should have 17 players on the field each week who are up to first grade standard.. Playing Mini would ensure at best we have 16 who can do this.

on cordner, its not only about being young, the bloke has also only just completed his first season of first grade - im pretty sure cayless was at least a couple into his career and had tasted test footy - more like us giving the captaincy to kennedy or JWH but his leadership qualities are undoutable.

on the co-captains things, dont forget there is a thing called a (vc) which is effectively a co-captain except without the title which seems more logical - the (c) and (vc) to a forward and back - kennedy and pearce the leading contenders without a doubt imo

This last thing this club needs is another pretender becoming captain.

Give to a genuine leader like Cordner.

I do have a problem of a fullback being captain from a practical point of view. Most penalties are incurred whilst defending, and that means the fullback is somewhat 30 to 40 metres behind the play. When a ref blows a penalty, is the fullback now going to run upfield 40mtrs to hear the caution then run back 40 mtrs to get into position. Yes he will do it sometimes, but there will be occasions when he wont, esp if the opposition is pushing to hurry the game up. I think the captain should be in close proximity to the ref for a good portion of the game just so he is in ear shot and can quickly get the ref's attention.

I don't doubt Kennedy's leadership qualities but he needs a good offseason and prove he can be a consistent first grade front rower before being handed any official on field leadership role (I don't count leadership group crap). We simply don't have a stand out candidate at the moment which makes me think Maloney is the best of the bunch.

Cordne may be young but he is the best option. Kennedy had a blinder but how many other games did he play well?
Cordner has been one of our most consistent players and has captaincy experience in the U20's Blues

you forgot the part about him having not played league for 5 years and having stacks of media pressure on his own game. And also the fact that he is on a 1 year contract - wouldnt the coach want more than anything else in a young group someone to take the side forward long term not someone who is on a contract-by-contract basis

No proud captain has ever left his team voluntary...

As a club we need to do what is best for the team and not let sentimental bull$hit interfere with our decision making!

                                Mini should not come into captaincy calculations for several reasons;

He will be hard pressed next year to keep his spot in the side, if you are being fair dinkum he will not be in our best 17.

He will be another year older and another year slower.

As Hawkeye mentioned, it is not ideal to have your captain at fullback. It just isn't really practical.

The guy will be retiring at the end of the year, we need to be looking at a long term solution.
The year 2013 marks the beginning of the Roosters next 'decade of excellence', and it will prove to be more successful than the last!

                                Here's looking at you, kid.
