I don't think he will either. I have a feeling the idea is to bring DCE in to mentor and guide the likes of Hugo, not replace or push aside. Common sense tells me this and the age gap is perfect for the master and apprentice so to speak. This is not a replacement situation but a professional one. All workplaces need a good mix of differing experiences and skill sets and a football field is no different.
Here's to a 2026 Bondi Beach postcode premiership

Now let’s see this divide the chookpen
hoping for a Cronk or sbw repeat but who knows
only $500k isn’t it so not breaking the budget
if he guides Sammy Walker and we don’t loose savala I’ll be okay with it

Ah yes, because the ’Pen is usually so unified in its vision.

          2 great points!

we were once the league leaders in the hyphen name!!!!

but seriously, its a good point - brave by him also, hadnt looked at it like that. He could have stayed at manly, gone to SL or retired and all would have been respectable steps - but he is coming to a big club, with high expectations and profile - for him i am sure he the challenge that represents is great for this point in his career, and probably highlights his will to succeed

Weird stance to take considering you bash our own players all the time.

If we had DCE this season, I believe we would have won more games, particularly the close ones where we missed a cool head and game manager.

With his and Robson’s addition, I believe this takes our team to the next level and hopefully top 4 (barring injuries).

              Bring on 2026!!

He's going to make a fantastic whipping boy.

With respect to Walker, we still essentially have two inexperienced halves. Yes Walker's touted as the next big thing and as fans we know what he can do. But... he's not winning premierships or being rushed into Origin, is he?

If DCE's the right fit then I can see a tangible benefit to this signing. Not saying it's guaranteed to work or that we need to invest our egos in this one...etc. However, I reckon a lot of what he'll potentially bring will relate to the quality of his training and some secrets about how the oldest player in the game is still a fit, injury free competitor.

Odd signing the oldest player in the game for 1 year? Sure. Also I'm aware guys like Mase and Hastings have said he's a d!cked. Hopefully we've explored that one more thoroughly than Mase & Hastings.

                    ---

                    Jizzy anecdote:
IDK the guy's training style but would say he's injury free because he's CONSISTENT. As a middle-aged marathon runner who beat JT and Buddy Franklin by more than an hour (just saying), I find that I'm injury free because I put a lot of effort into building base fitness.

My experience is that people who yo-yo between injuries usually don't invest the boring shyte. They'll chug down protein shakes and do mad max-effort sessions where they tear the house down. However they won't then (e.g. for my training) do a slow as hell ~8-10km jog down to the lake at 10pm, get home, do 30 minutes worth of stupid looking exercises using rubber bands, stretch it out and ensure they get 8h of quality sleep.

DCE's program will be different but I suggest that he'd train like a champ and our boys will have a lot to learn from him. It will be disappointing if he doesn't deliver but what better options are on the market right now? All halves of that sorta calibre are locked in (i.e. we're not getting Hughes, Munster, Cleary, Hynes...etc) and we're banking on Walker becoming one of them. IDK if throwing a blank cheque at Savala/Sandon and telling them to learn from Walker's greatness is a great strategy. Dare say having DCE on our books is a pull factor for most young halves.

Only one way to make things ok.

                      Extend and upgrade Hugo.

If they do, all is forgiven.

He beat out Hugo in every single stat last year.
Wow a 14 yr veteran outplaying a rookie with no stable halves partner all year, great achievement!

in all seriousness, he’s ours now, and will be behind him 100%.

Hope Hugo gets a chance to bag a bigger contract elsewhere, he did his job admirably when he got a shot this year.
