Sydney Roosters Academy Graduate Blake Steep Re-Commits

The Sydney Roosters have today announced that Blake Steep has extended his contract with the Club for a further two seasons, keeping him with the Tricolours until at least the end of 2028.

A powerful forward who has progressed through the Sydney Roosters Academy, 20-year-old Steep established himself as a regular first-grader in 2025, making 22 NRL appearances in his breakout season.

Roosters Head of Recruitment, Joel Carbone, said Steep’s extension was a fitting reward for his development and attitude.

“Blake has been a terrific addition to our NRL squad and he’s a great example of the pathways we’ve built through the Roosters Academy,” said Carbone.

“He’s a player who works hard for every opportunity, and his growth over the past couple of seasons is a credit to his approach and consistency. We’re really pleased to see him continue his journey with us and believe he’ll play an important role in the years ahead,” he added.

Steep expressed his pride in extending his stay with the Club.

“I’m really proud to be part of the Roosters. The Club means a lot to me; it’s helped me grow as a player and as a person,” said Steep.

Great news. I expect he will get a bit more game time while Rads serves his 10 game suspension.

Now let’s lock up Foketi too - I reckon he could even be a better prospect than Blake.

Interesting to see what we do going forward
atm 5 sub 100kg guys who play middle and edge in rads, 2 butch, steep and Foketi all vying for 2 spots
next year might be 3 with 2 on the bench but when we finally have a 2nd prop on the bench we will only have 2 in the top 17
rads is experienced but will be pressured to perform
        Nat butch can cover prop
Egan finally showed something this year
Foketi goes hard while steep looks like class
can’t see them all here in a couple of years time

Unless critchon is not re signed and one goes to the edge
would prefer to have bigger bodies with Wong and critchon on the edge though
pressure on rads and butcher bros over next 2 years

I wasn't going mad after all and Zero Tackles credibility is intact.

This is where I initially read the news, Zero Tackle by coincidence on Oct 24, but they had not updated their records then because it probably wasn’t official.

smart business move - with the new TV deal getting negotiated in 2027 + new teams coming in who knows what the new salary cap will be after then.

I was actually surprised when Whyte extended until 2029 given a year or 2, he might be the best prop in the game and could write his own cheque

Maybe he wants to be a 1 club Rooster player.
IMO having the brains thrust of Robbo, Nick & Bouris is high end professionality. A guy like Whyte who would have come from very very humble beginnings would be influenced big time by 2 millionaires & a billionaire about guiding him with financial decisions. Whyte is the alpha male of our team so the Roosters will look after him & he'll be paid enough by the Chooks that he wont think about leaving.
