  • Official Match Day Thread: Roosters v Sharks

There’s been plenty of talk in the media this week. Overachieving, underachieving, all that noise. Tonight we shut them up. Anyone who says we’ve underachieved gets proven wrong right here, right now.

This is knockout footy. Everything we’ve done this season counts for nothing if we don’t beat the Sharks. We scraped into the 8 and most people didn’t even think we’d make it this far. But we did. And now, we’ve got the chance to turn that into something special, a finals win, away from home, backs against the wall.

And don’t give the Sharks an ounce of respect. I don’t care where they finished, I don’t care who they beat last week, I just don’t rate them. They never get better. Their "Rooster coach” Fitzy hasn’t taken them anywhere and they never seem to improve. They’re just a rubbish club making up the numbers, as always. Their Port-A-Loo Park is a great reflection and symbol of them as a club. It tells the story of their organization, cheap, plastic and soulless.

So tonight, we rip in from the very first whistle. We bash them, we outwork them and we send them packing. Time to show the Sharks and everyone else, what the Roosters are made of.

    Kick-off’s coming. 750pm.

    GO ROOSTERS! Let’s go boys!

We can beat every team. When we are on.
Trents job is tocoach and motivate then its up to our leader to keep that going.
Hawks are doing it from 8th in the AFL.
      Rooster will do it aswell

Huge game. I really don’t know what to expect to be honest. I think it’s one of those games where it could be very close, or either team could win well. It will all come down to who dominates the middle. Our pigs need to have a big one.

          Roosters by 2

          GO EASTS !!!

Our backs and theirs are fairly even. Our forwards and bench smoke them

Like others have said on our day the Roosters can beat any team so lets hope that happens tonight.

I'm no VFL fan but that reminds me of 2013.

My dad was on his last legs in hospital and couldn't recognise me (thought I was his brother who'd died as a kid... thought we were on a boat to our new lives in Australia).

The bloke in the bay next to him was off in cuckoo land as well but was propped up on a chair watching footy replays the whole time. He had Hawks and Roosters gear everywhere, including some stuff that demonstrated he was a proper fan. I was like 'maaate you must be sooo happy this year!!!' He'd then reply with 'hahah oh yes thank you thank you' to everything, clueless of what footy actually was.

Was sorta sad that both his teams had won and he wasn't able to appreciate it. Reminds me that we've gotta enjoy these moments to the max while we can.

May the limoncello flow tonight as Teddy and Mark N do their country proud. Sod NSW and the Kangaroos. IMO both should line up for Italy!!!

Looks like Tom Hazelton was ruled out with infection, and Dan Atkinson has come into the 17.

I have a suspicion that the Sharks will win, but I really hope I’m wrong. If we play probably an 8 out of 10 or better, that’s likely good enough to beat them.

Players from other teams dropping like flies, as well. There is a definite opportunity this year.

Enjoy the game, everyone. Go the Chooks.

Soft soft draw . There record against top 8 teams is very poor . Nonetheless , I am not underestimating them , it will be a tough game

Well we scraped into the 8 after eventually hitting brilliant form at the right end of the year, combinations have come together and we have our best 17 (probably 18 or 19) fit and available for selection. How long has it been since we could say that heading into the finals? This year we’re not cannon fodder for the top couple of teams, but THE form team that’s primed to give it a real shake. Fit, aggressive and confident. It’s the best balanced team we’ve had in ages; no duds, no former stars playing beyond their use-by date, no fwits, no fill-ins. Up to Robbo to have them mentally prepared, which he’s usually good at this time of year.

We should have the Sharks covered, then onto the real grand final next week against either the Raiders or Broncos (the other form teams). It’s funny, but I no longer fear our bogie teams Penrith and Melbourne, even with our shocking record against them in the last 5 years.

                            Here come the Roosters……

This is going to be a tough physical grind of a game if we don't do the dumb stuff that gets you beaten (errors/sin bins etc) we should win.

The Sharks had the 2nd best home record during the regular season this is not going to be easy.
