Yeah he did. NRL still counting this as his rookie year though and giving him the record for it, just won't let him get the award for rookie of the year.

To put that in to perspective that record is older than every team currently in the NRL except for ourselves, the scum and the Bulldogs who were formed the year before in 1935 we are lucky to have a rich history embedded in our clubs fabric.

You are still considered a “rookie” as long as you have played no more than 5 games in the previous season.

Not in my eyes. Same sport just different amount of players on a team.

Which is sorta funny as I can think of a few players who were never really eligible for rookie of the year as they made their debut at the tail end of a season.

IMO it's a claytons award either way. Funniest one was Walsh. Had a completely random season with the Wahs where I honestly can't remember him being the best rookie of the year (more like a novelty prize). He then signed with Brisbane for overs, bought a bag of cocaine, hit up a tattoo parlour for some ghastly Beebz style 'I'm actually a tough guy' ink then went out partying (getting arrested in the process) while behaving as if he's the #1 kid in town.

Meanwhile Sam Walker was not rookie of the year in 2021. He also has no criminal record, drug addiction or OTT tats in an attempt to be tough.

What are you on? Sam Walker DID win rookie of the year in 2021.

22 games so missed 3 and still 23 tries
toops also with 19 is outstanding

Given his recent success, does the team keep going back to the well?

                  Mark v Ronaldo
                  Dan v Sione

I’d favour the left hand attack this week.

I think they have to. It’s been working so well- we just need a plan b and c if it’s not working in the day. We definitely need to mix it up a bit going forward so it’s not as predictable. There will be room inside the wingers to hit runners back on the angle if they are all preparing for the kick to the wingers.

Nice article on Mark. Good Roosters backstory
Mark Nawaqanitawase has revealed how he had been destined to play for the Roosters since training alongside Daniel Tupou with the club’s U17s development squad.
