I expected nothing less than this thread. We love tearing shreds off our players as soon as they have a bad game. He has been pretty good this year for us and that's all that matters. Sorry he isn't a Fittler or Thurston, maybe we should find one and then we'll all have the team we want, right?

It was a poor game from Mitch on the big stage - terrible timing. His confidence and focus wasnt SOO standard...too many wild women maybe?

I do think though, overall this year, he has played his best football.

Perspective time - a penalty goal less to QLD and NSW wins....would the Pearce bagging be as strong? Methinks not.

There are very few players with the skills of Thurston, Cherry Evans etc these days. Very few.

The game is all about big players with athleticism.

Somebody posted a link to a highlights package of our 1999 season. Go and watch that and see how much skill there was back then and the beautiful deep backline movements.

Phil Gould has been calling for a playmaker academy for a long time now. This is crucial for the game if we are going to keep the skill component in the game.
        Yep.
Watching the game last night it really did hit home, just how thin the ranks are in this department.
Seriously? Pearce & Carney are the best atm?

If there was such a thing, that was to target potential talent & build on it, it may bring out a lot of talent currently not recognised at club level. Then, after years with this development, you should see talent with the numbers 6,7 & 9 more proportionate to the other positions.
Would that also mean that the $ factor for these players would then come back to more realistic amounts?
        Food for thought.

          Good post Jack.
I think Mitch's partying is catching up with him. He needs to re-focus or our season could go from bad to even worse.

I'm a Queenslander and whilst watching the game last night I remember thinking - it's good to have Pearce on the other side for a change. at least I knew that we didn;t have to worry about the halfback from NSW making a break, getting a good kick or setting up a try.
There's a reason why the young and idealistic become the old and cynical.
            It's called experience.

Some very good points there. There was way more skill in the game 10 to 15 years ago. Part of the problem is the wrestling and the rushing defence now, the defence is up so quick there just isn't time to execute the skilful stuff anymore. Ironically roosters probably started that trend with the rushing defence of the 02-04 era.

I've always found it interesting how the Johns boys (esp Andrew) rave about Mitchells skills and the things he can do at training etc.

Well he must leave most of this skill AT training as it doesnt show in games that often.

I will probably be laughed at here But next year if his game continues to improve I would pick the yound halfback from Souths Looks able to control a game good kicking game and can kick goals Reynolds

He is something like top 6 and 7 for line break assists and try assists this year for us i read before. I'm sure Carney is doing well in that department too. Maybe you do drop them for origin it's not me to decide (doubt any candidate would do better) but i wouldn't be getting rid of Pearce from the Roosters.

Btw I've hard people saying give Reynolds a shot but come on he's not that good. Knee jerk at this stage.

Reynolds plays with much more composure than Pearce.

He is also not extremely gifted, however he has the ability to control agame.

I would swap our bloke for him in a heartbeat, Reynolds can play and is a proven match winner, whilst all the big guns get the wraps over there, he is the constant that gets them going.

                          • Reynolds has a very smart coach who is with the times, Pearce has never had one at first grade level. (there was good signs the first season under Freddy but our club imploded in 09 so who knows where that was leading)

Hey I was calling him PearceOfShit ages ago maaaaaaaate. Just like Melon and his Mortein thieving.

Pearce had his chance and failed. It has to be stated, Rusticle you were right, I'm no Fonzie.

Yeah good club player but when it's on the line in the big games from now on the failures like last night and the GF will always be in the back of Pearce and Carnteys minds. They only really unleash when the pressures off them, when it doesn't really matter.

Halves have been Easts and NSW problems for years now, since Freddy. And really there is no end in sight.

                              You know it makes sense.

                              • The Reynolds talk is extremely premature IMO. He's playing in a team that's also doing really well (Souffs), as much as I hate to say it.
