I hope Mark commits and stays long term.

Nobody is bigger than the club. I realised this a long time ago. Players come and go, but us supporters, we've been here long before most of them arrived and we’ll still be here long after they’re gone.

Of course, there are exceptions. Players who grew up as Roosters fans, who only ever wanted to wear our jersey and never considered playing elsewhere. Take Luke Ricketson, for example. A Roosters man through and through. But even then, do you really think he hurts after a loss as much as the die-hard supporters do? I doubt it.

I don’t follow players, I follow the club. The truth is, most of them are only here because we offered more money or because of the lifestyle perks that come with playing for a big, proud club like ours.

So when it comes to Mark, I struggle to see the point in developing his game next season if he’s not committed to the club long-term. Why invest in making him a better player just so he can return to rugby union?

It’s hard to truly support a player in our colours if he’s not fully committed. Yes, Mark is a rare talent with exceptional skills, but talent can be replaced. Loyalty and passion for the jersey can’t.

If he stays until 2027 and then heads back to union, I’ll wish him well. But I won’t be backing him with my full support while he’s here, knowing his heart might already be somewhere else.

    You’re such a tyrant.

Yeah but you think we "need" dce. "Need". We "need" dce. So, you know...we're coming at things from whatever that mindset is 13...

But regardless, what planet logic could you possibly be from 13 to think that, while we have Mark N at a cheap price, and he's tearing the house down, that we would ditch him, with a year to go on his contract just because he signed to play somewhere else for that year after that??

He's a winger. Not a game managing half. And he's just about the best winger in the comp, and a freak, only a few games into his NRL career. And we have him settled in to our club, and at a discount as to his next year price.

I assume you must just want to ditch him out of spite. Whatever your reason, it's ridiculous.

He’s a free agent in November and supposedly rugby is attempting to lure him back.
My thinking with all players who are motivated by money is that you never wanna play that game as you can't buy somebody's heart.

Mark N is an exciting player but has defensive flaws. We're also assuming he can 'learn the game'. Whereas Toia (an Easts junior and now successful QLD Origin rep... I find it craaazy how much it's been downplayed that he shut Latrell out in all 3 games really) knows the game.

Billy Slater wouldn't have picked Toia if he was just another John. IMO he and Billy are our priorities at centre. From there, Toops has maybe 1-2 more years and we're gonna need 2 wingers. I hope Mark N (on Toops' contract) is one of them.

Fair enough. I’ll agree to disagree.

He’s the modern day SKD. But still, I love having him in our side.

Personally I'd flip that argument around and want the opposite....but each to their own opinion.
It’s nothing like DCE signing for a year.

Appreciate that. Thank you Batsey. If he does jump ship I'll need therapy for sure.

We’ve been waiting nearly 6 years to have our best 17 available. I don’t see any benefit in CHOOSING not to play them next year.

We can’t control player’s futures. Nor should we. Imagine your boss trying to lock you in for less dough forever. You’d hate them. Rightly so.

Anyway, we’re too old and ugly a club for it to matter. We’ve lost better players and have lived to tell the tale.

One more year might be all we need from the unpredictable yet unreliable super human.

                                Life goes on.
