  • Sandon to Cowboys

    From the DT:

    SHOOSH

With old Daly Cherry-Evans heading to the Roosters, we’re hearing Anzac Day medallist Sandon Smith will quit the Chooks at the end of the season. His likely destination is the North Queensland Cowboys. It comes after another outstanding performance from halfback Hugo Savala and five-eighth Smith against Cronulla on Saturday which had everyone in rugby league asking why the Roosters would bother signing Cherry-Evans, who turns 37 in February.

I think regardless of DCE, Sandon Smith probably would have left anyway, particularly due to the form of Savala. I’d rather us not get DCE however it’s looking more and more like the deal has been done.

I rate DCE but 100% the better fit is the fins.

he’s just what they need. An old head to calm the farm and steer the ship.

as to whether he’s just what we need you’d have to say not really, no.

Sandon I have a soft spot for but if I was him I’d know the future was elsewhere

I think he would have left anyway but signing DCE will be one of the dumbest move this club has made in a long time.

I'm hoping we don't sign DCE. I was thinking about this today. When Teddy eventually retires, can we potentially go with a spine of the below?

          1. Sandon
          6. Hugo
          7. Walker
          9. Robson
          With Connor at 14.

Sandon's naturally suited to 5/8, but I'm wondering if he could move into the FB spot when Teddy pulls up stumps, in a Ponga style role? Ssndon has played a bit of FB in lower grades.

When that poll came up a few weeks ago I voted for signing DCE.

I wish to retract my moment of idiocy.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

Just read an article where Andrew John’s says both Savala and Sandon are now first grade footballers - they will both leave if DCE comes to the Roosters

Forget the BS about them learning from DCE, they won’t hang around.

I can see Sandon wanting to move on.

Roosters have to decide whether they want a 37 year old outsider taking up heaps of the cap, or home grown products on less money.

No No sorry...either you believe in the TIT philosophy or you don't.

Can't be half in & half out when you feel like it.

"Robbo is the Roosters & management is in awe of him & has a job as long as he wants to"

If Robbo goes with DCE being signed then I will Trust in Trent that the right decision has been made.

I don’t want to sound condescending, but do you really think they would be happy in NSW cup after the form they have shown in first grade?
They would agitate for an early release , like all the other fiasco’s we are seeing in the NRL.
I’d suggest they would have plenty of suitors, as well.

                          Sandon was gone anyway
not an nrl half so was always heading
potentially savala in a year or so two if rodwell develops to the player they think he will!

I feel Sandon may make a decent 14 somewhere!

one of them going would be probable, both going won't happen. given the club holds the cards - they've both signed a contract - i reckon we'll keep the one we want. every chance that player will be in the 17.
i'm slightly against signing dce but i don't think it stops us from keeping the half we want. what it does mean is that we don't have that 1m to sign/keep other players
