Or he's willing to back himself rather then take the sercurity of the extension and upgrade.
Compare Sandon Smiths rise to Sam Walkers in his first year. Sandon is miles ahead , his composure with his goal kicking is well behond his NRL experience. Smart and learning fast ,an early exit from the chooks could end up looking like Thurston's departure from the bulldogs.

Yeah, but Sandon is 22, Walker was 18. Not really a fair comparison.

I don’t think he ends up at the Cowboys. They have Purdue who is a natural half they’ve just moved into the halves and only a week or two ago Payren called him the future of the club. Dearden picks himself. No room there. Even that Duffy kid is meant to be highly regarded. Started the year and was then dumped. I wonder if the Cows do sign Sandon if they’ll get the same biased commentary about tossing their young players to the side to sign an external player.

I would love Sandon to say, and I think he's great and will get better. The reality is, there is absolutely no place for him unless he is just keeping the starting 5/8 role. If DCE comes, that's no chance. And if he doesn't I still think it'll probably go to Hugo for his boot alone - it's just too valuable.

He'd make a fantastic 14, but he's not going to displace the best 14 in the comp. The squeeze only continues next year with Robson coming.

I would be trying to make the leave as amicable as possible, and trying to leave the door open for a return in a few years. That would be my goal for all of the young blokes we'll lose, of whom there will be a couple.

Firstly, try and get them to stay in cup and learn additional positions so that they can come in and get grade experience when possible. If they're too good for that, try and get them to take a loan deal. If they aren't keen on that, make the split as positive as possible and keep the door open for the future. We're just not going to be able to keep them all.

I reckon your right, make it a nice split is all we can do, I reckon he'd be a great utility, but Connor is way. Better

This one did make me chuckle in the thread aptly titled the Daly Cherrygraph
So the only people who think highly of this guy are Roosters fans, makes no sense

Also is that thread where Salvo got his "I'm hearing DCE to the Eels" information"lol

                    1. Sandon
                    6. Hugo
                    7. Walker
                    9. Robson
                    With Connor at 14.

Sandon's naturally suited to 5/8, but I'm wondering if he could move into the FB spot when Teddy pulls up stumps, in a Ponga style role? Ssndon has played a bit of FB in lower grades.
SS at FB,gotta be kidding,he’s 5ft tall & never jumped off the ground in his life. You would bomb it to him all day as he would he cannon fodder for outside backs running through

Forget the BS about them learning from DCE, they won’t hang around.

I can see Sandon wanting to move on.

Roosters have to decide whether they want a 37 year old outsider taking up heaps of the cap, or home grown products on less money.
SS already decided that when he rejected our extension. Glad the club moved on from him as if you’re looking to get out then go. We moved on,but he was never the answer anyway. Now I don’t want DCE,but going forward it’s Walker & Hugo with Rodwell in another few years,so SS was going to be stuck in the magoos.

Mal coached Australia to their worst ever loss (with DCE at halfback) and Slater got a coaching lesson in last year's origin series (with DCE at halfback) so I don't care about what they think.

Unfortunately, Sandon Smith is surpass to requirements. Can't keep them all. He can be great on his day, unfortunately that day is too rare.

                            Next yr
                            6. S Walker
                            7. DCE
                            9. R Robson
                            13. V Radley
                            14. C Watson

                            18th man...Hugo

Sandon to the eels or cowboys.

Did you read the comments on the thread “The Daly Cherrygraph” ?
It consists of 650 PAGES of sh#t insults directed by the Manly fans , at DCE.
They think we are mad for considering this pensioner (their words) , and they would love to have our halves , Sandon & Hugo.
They also can’t wait for the Roosters to announce the signing, because they think it will f*ck up our club.
DCE is also a “media whore “, in that he makes announcements about his discussions with the Roosters and Phins, as soon as the media focus is away from him, and onto Galvin.
I only read 12 pages, but it was pretty damning.
It makes you wonder what the Roosters fans and club see in him, that nobody else does.

                                Ungrateful farks Seagull fans are.
Disrespectful way of treating a club legend.

They should be careful what they wish for.
ĹOL....over the past few years they have moved on Luke Metcalf and Jamie Humphrey but rather, signed Luke Brooks.
                                Questionable succession planning hey .
