Apparently we want him gone ASAP. Can only assume we have someone in mind to make a big play for. Seems a bit rushed to get rid of him and be willing to pay for half his salary this season. He’s been bad in defence but still offers good depth. We’ve all been loving Billy but keep in mind he’s played like 3 games. I don’t think he’s played more than 8-10 in a season. I’d keep Dom for the rest of the year and then let him go in the offseason.

If we get a medium term injury or even if Teddy is named for NSW, we need to play Junior Pauga who is another step below Young. Seems a bit drastic.

Can only assume the urgency to release him now means we are chasing someone hard.

Wonder why we’ve held onto Brandon Smith for the rest of the year when we realistically don’t need to. Would’ve been an easier way to free up cash and we have Watson and ZDC above him in the pecking order.

If we're paying $250k for the next 2 years for him to play elsewhere, we might as well keep him as a backup. It basically costs the club $200k to have a serviceable winger in case one of our starters go down. Minimum is $140k, and the spot needs to be filled. The $60k saving isn't going to do anything...

Is there any thoughts around if dom young and cheese turn around and be good signings for their next clubs - did we use the cheese wrong and was robbo not able to turn young’s deficiencies around? Will be interesting to see it was it just signing young on potential!

I see what Crawley is saying that it wasn’t the players who signed with us, we offered the contract which in the end was poor recruitment! And we are the embarrassed one’s now making the players pay for it!

The Cheese can play! His major issue with us was finding form. He'll be motivated to play some good footy again.

As for Dom, How many times can a coach tell his winger to slide and stick with his man and yardage means running towards the oppositions try line? I'd be surprised if another coach can help him improve these aspects of his game. You'd sign him for his try scoring ability and work around the rest!

Dom has not been given the chance to play centre that he signed on for, which was the selling point for him to sign. Any club that plays him at the centre will reap the rewards and this site will implode when that happens - look at the number of threads and posts about Tyrell May - be double / triple for Dom Young in why they didn't keep him

Don’t see anything to like about Dom as a centre. Haven’t seen any skills that would seemingly translate all that well. He doesn’t have a step, hardly has a swerve, probably doesn’t have the best flick pass in the world, isn’t a great defender. Why do you assume he’d go gangbusters? Just seems strange. Again, I hope if he plays centre he kills it, but he sure as hell doesn’t look like one to me.

re the initial question, I think Brandon will go very well, and Dom will probably have a decent highlight reel. Sometimes a fit isn’t right. Smith has put in effort, but did his ACL as he was finding some really nice form. Our issue with him is that he’s a lock or 14, not a 9. And we have Robson coming, and the best 14 in the comp. There’s nowhere to keep him.

Dom I’m less complementary towards. I don’t think he didn’t try in his games with us, but the decision making and errors were just too much to handle. We have a better back 5 now on less coin. What more do you want?
