I also wouldn't be surprise if getting rid of Young is to upgrade Mark N he only signed a 2 year deal iirc
Upgrade him with Cheese's substantial money.
My gut feeling is to keep Dom.
He and Chad starred in NSW Cup.
My gut feeling is right more than it's wrong.
Two stars ready to slot in during Origin and when injuries occur.
Surely our expert coaching dept can improve Dom's play.
Surely we can get him a 3rd party deal...he looks good and is already featuring in our and NRL advertising.

Please BB - your gut feelings are maybe just piss and wind. You can take medication that helps these.

You lost us all at Chad.

Surely you can’t be serious with 80% of what you post - just trying to get a rise?

I don't watch NSW Cup but a quick check of the stats shows that Dom Young had the most metres in our Cup game last week, he broke the line 3 times for 177 metres and scored a try. Chad got 3 linebreak assists, a try assist, a try and kicked for 243 metres.

Whilst I wouldn't be bringing Chad and Dom back at any point (Unless Teddy gets picked for Origin) it is safe to say that Bondi Boy isn't being dishonest about both players going well in Cup.

No I saw that as well. But in firsts - no good. Watched the highlights and yes even Chad looked good. We’ve seen enough of them in firsts to cut them loose.

Apparently we want him gone ASAP. Can only assume we have someone in mind to make a big play for. Seems a bit rushed to get rid of him and be willing to pay for half his salary this season. He’s been bad in defence but still offers good depth. We’ve all been loving Billy but keep in mind he’s played like 3 games. I don’t think he’s played more than 8-10 in a season. I’d keep Dom for the rest of the year and then let him go in the offseason.

If we get a medium term injury or even if Teddy is named for NSW, we need to play Junior Pauga who is another step below Young. Seems a bit drastic.

Can only assume the urgency to release him now means we are chasing someone hard.

Wonder why we’ve held onto Brandon Smith for the rest of the year when we realistically don’t need to. Would’ve been an easier way to free up cash and we have Watson and ZDC above him in the pecking order.

Whilst I completely agree with Robbo dropping Young and putting faith in the other outside backs, it must be said that it’s yet another failed bit of business and recruitment from the coach and the club. Brandon Smith and Young high profile signings who have been released early or not renewed. We signed DY on a 4 year deal and we’ve torn it up not even halfway through. It wasn’t like DY defensive deficiencies were a secret. Robbo seems to be missing his mark more often than not.

Barnhill was OK. Much better than the others I listed.

I don't see it as a failure to sign Dom at all. He scored a lot of tries for Newcastle and scored a lot for us last year. He obviously came to us for the money , but his hit ups were weak, he ran sideways to avoid the contact and continually got caught out of position in defence. HE performed really well in NSW cup last week. The drop in class helped him or it shows how poorly he was trying in firsts. I think Trent has decided its either attitude or just not learning the lessons nor following instructions. Cya.

I think he has just been so bad for us and obviously isn’t listening to Robbo that we just wanted to get rid of him. I don’t think there is anything else to it.

                        • Per DT: The Sydney Roosters would be prepared to tip-in around $250,000 of Dom Young’s annual $450,000 contract – meaning the star winger could return to Newcastle for just $200,000 a season.

You mean you don't have multiple country estates that you would like to tell the rest of the forum about like we GAFF anyway?

Recruitment and retention is not an exact science - you win some and you lose some, just like predicting the weather!

I'm just glad that the Club has the nouse and courage to cut our losses and release players early (like Young and Brandon Smith) rather than keep hope that they will eventually come good in our system.

Looking back, geez we dodged a bullet with Fifita ...

Yes but more importantly, the Club is acting quick on rectifying their mistakes as opposed to other Clubs who hold onto underperforming players until the end of their contracts as their too scared to make the tough decisions..

Kudos to the Club for acting on and trying to fix their errors..
