They're both very good players.

I've enjoyed Mark N more than Suaalii but obviously a lot of the money Suaalii got from both the Roosters and Rugby Union is because of his potential. Obviously scouts and experts feel like he could be one of the best rugby players in the world at some point which obviously leads to more money being paid.
Mark N for right now but if Suaalii does truly become one of the greatest then 1.5m is a bargain.

Mark N just seems completely undaunted by the NRL. He's completely surprised me. It's taken him no time at all to impress, whereas I felt like we were always waiting for Joseph's break out performance, which really never came. Unlike a Latrell or Manu Joseph never had that set the world on fire solo NRL game.
Mark N's skills for a big lad are mind boggling.
And he's a team player who's always there in support.
I know who'd I'd take if we had to choose.

atm Marky on $500k and others or $250-300k
for what they are delivering this year they are all playing like they are worth $800k

Marky not next year so more extension and at best maybe $600k ish

I hope Teddy plays all 24 regular season games and makes it all the way through the 80mins in the grand final.
But I'm also super curious to see what would happen with Marky Mark at fullback.
He's so unstructured he'd either absolutely tear it up or it would be complete chaos.

Suallii is a second rower in my opinion.
Not quite enough speed or creativity to be a legit fullback option.
Not enough speed to be at the upper echelon in the centers or on the Wing (despite his height)
He should be looking to make the most of his strengths, and bulk up and turn himself into an SBW style 2nd rower.
At least from a Rugby League perspective.

It's a silly comparison. Sua'ali'i started as a 17yo who had played nothing more than rep junior league & union. Mark came to us as a 22yo who had already been playing for the Wallabies for 2 years, and represented Australia at both the Commonwealth Games and Olympics at senior level. Who would you expect to perform better?

Yeah, I agree the comparison is absurd. Joseph played well with us. Maybe he didn't reach the heights we'd hoped (although he was definitely starting to clicking at the back-end of last year) but no-one could question his effort. He put every bit of energy and intent into every run he took with us. I can't fault a player who does that.
They're both hyper talented, but Marks highlight reel is definitely beter at this point. But he didn't join us at 17 with all the pressure in the world on him.

yeah, the article is more a dig at union than a serious comparison of the two players. rothfield writes 'the stats don't lie' which misses the point. stats are there to be intelligently interpreted, not to be cherry picked for whatever agenda you're running

rugby Aus signed Suaali for $1.5m and we had him on $800k which he was overpaid at the time on potential
pretty easy who got the win
Suaali on the other hand has been overrated his entire career. Honestly, he did precious little for us. An occasional catch a bomb try. He was all hype, and no wonder he went to union. It's like going to Super League, but for 4x the money.
Marky Mark went the other way, and sought out the greater challenge that is the NRL. Very rare for union players who can do that.
But he has. Marky Mark is a gun. Would you swap him back for Suaali? Given Marky costs 1/3rd the price of Suaali?
Not a farkin chance. You wouldn't trade for Suaali even for the same price!!
Buzz is spot on.

For those who don't watch Super Rugby, Joe has been killing it playing fullback for the Waratahs and the media is now speculating he may even play their rather than outside center for the Wallabies against the Lions.
I was thinking when we lost manu and sualli it would be the end of the world. And we would go backwards but our centres / wings have matched them this year and at a fraction of the price.
