I thought DCE was a done deal but Zero tackle are reporting that he hasn't signed with anyone. Now whether that is just DCE and the Roosters not ready to release a statement or if he hasn't decided what he is doing??

If it’s only one season then I do see the wisdom in having DCE as a mentor to our up and coming halves. We need our young boys schooled by the best and DCE’s experience will be invaluable. But any longer than a year and we may lose players so a short stint to help along our young boys is ideal but nothing more.“Soon will the present day order be rolled up, and a new one spread out in its stead”- (Baha’u’llah)

so from robbo's presser it would seem it mighn't be a done deal. interesting if that's the case and we're interested despite the recent form of savala and sandon.
i believe we've signed both of those guys until the end of 2026 so if dce only comes for one year then the club's in the box seat to keep both of them if we want. if not, we keep the one we see as having a long term future with us, one of them leaves which in turn clears the way for either rodwell or elliot to get a chance, a chance they mightn't have had if we signed sandon and hugo long term

Might as well not have junior teams, and just buy a first grade team like the Storm and Dogs have done.

dce coming is actually good news for elliot and rodwell if it means one of smith or savala leaves

As you've said in your post the club will likely take 2 or 3 whilst 2-3 are gone. We won't keep all of them nor do we need to.

Managing a roster is not an exact science, similar to weather predictions. Sometimes we get it right, and other times we get it wrong.
But I have faith in the current staff (Uncle Nick, Robbo and Ando) to make decisions with the Club's best interests at heart.

World's best practice.....that's why they've adopted the Barcelona FC model after their 2018 visit.
The fruits are ripening for sure. Cannot warehouse them all however, identifying and retaining the prosperous one's is the tough part. Preston is a prime example. Much like McCathie and Ethan Roberts atm, Jacob was always top of the crop.

Watching Sandon and Savala get an opportunity only for the club to sign a 36yr old over the top of them is not a great advertisement for the clubs desire to develop halves.
We are currently in conversation with the Harold Matthews player of the year (a half) to re-sign on for the next few years, an outstanding talent.
I guarantee the conversation is centred around which club will give him the best chance of development and will give him an opportunity once he's deserved it. I'd be curious to know how he and those advising him feel about the Roosters jumping at the first shiny half to come off contract.
If I'm a young half I want to be at Melbourne because they almost always promote from within.

It'll be years before Rodwell is ready to play firsts, if at all...big step up from the juniors.
Would he be able to stop Fonua-Blake or Kikau, *no* current firsts players can.
They just run riot at will.
Sandon is an established fg star now, and kicks goals. Why are we in a hurry to wave him goodbye to make way for unproven juniors?

Storm bought Hughes from Qld in 2017, after he'd played a singular game for both the Titans and Cowboys.
Storm bought Munster in 2013 from the Central Qld Capras in the Qld Cup.
Storm bought Papenhuyzen in 2017 from Wests Tigers.Last edited by bondi.boy; 05-13-2025, 05:02 PM.
