  • Odd situation
why didn’t we let him go at the start or the season? $620k is a lot to pay for someone who hasn’t got on the field
he is in out best 17 but maybe they might back Sandon to play 14 for the rest of the year?
Keary, may, sitili, young and now cheese all being asked to leave before their contracts expire in the last 6 months

is there someone who signed them coping some heat? As we are getting made to be the backflip kings
allthough I do agree to move on quickly

Because Souths were not going to pay him while he is injured.
Do you think the Roosters would pay $620k for a player from another club that is injured & cant play?

If they sign him this week they are paying for an injured player still

Yes, correct but they are paying him $180k for a player to sit out 5 weeks a lot different to $620k to sit out injured for the first 15 rounds

          • This decision could bite the Roosters on the ass, big time.
Especially if they are looking for an impact player off the bench, to break open a finals match.
All to save $200K ? Seems like peanuts to me, and it doesn't make sense.
The Cheese is a proven performer on the big stage.
If the Cheese even shows half decent form at Souffs, the commentators will all be laughing about how the Roosters recruitment and retention could get it so wrong.

I hope Robbo & Nic know what they are doing.

            • Souths are in the box seat.
They can afford to wait another 5 weeks & the Roosters have to keep paying him.

              • The club has obviously had a sit down and sick of the lacklustre seasons we have had and by all accounts are clearing the decks for possibly multiple signings or upgrades it almost feels like 2012 onto our premiership year, recruitment have messed up the last few years with some mediocre signings and potential targets, our youngsters are progressing nicely uncle Nick wants another premiership before he sails off into retirement.

Ponga/DCE possibly both? Who knows a lot of movement suggests with all of last seasons departures we will have enough for 2 big signings.

Neither of these signings will bring us anything we have had the best fullback of the modern era Teddy who laps Ponga on a bad day, our young halves are progressing ahead of time no need anymore for guiding hands and journeyman I think we lack a good pig upfront and a depth outside back signing but that’s it SmithSavala/Walker Robson and Teddy that is already a very good spine.

I honestly think they just wanted a rehab partner for Walker

Good shout it does bring back 2012 vibes where we just let a bunch of players go. Who knows what the club is thinking right now.. I reckon we are definitely speaking to players but our crop of young players are starting to come through and we believe in them. A balanced approach is important.

He might have been previously, but coming off an ACL, and given his track record with training and fitness in general, I'd say he won't be close to his best until next year. And his best days might be a thing of the past too if hes lost a step or two.

                          Yes very costly for us
                          80% of his salary paid
seems better off keeping him for the final $180k and at least get 12 rounds out of him

Why would he go any better there than he did with us?

Modern history shows that players going in that direction achieve less in Red and green than they did in RWB.
