Discuss, analyse, criticise. It’s just my opinion.
James Tedesco - Without doubt the most consistent fullback in the game this year. Had a hand in many tries and was as involved as ever. Didn’t allow the disappointment of losing his origin spot and captaincy to effect his game. Had an impact in every game. Rating: 10/10.
Daniel Tupou - Seems to get better with age. No winger carries the ball better from their own end than Toops. Still owns the air and scored more tries in a season than ever before. Rating 9/10.
Joseph Suaalii - Not the fastest or most skilful centre but plays the game hard and is a competent goal kicker. A shame we won’t get to witness further development. Rating: 7.5/10.
Joseph Manu - Was a bit inconsistent throughout the year. You can’t star in every game but it would have been nice to see him being more consistent. His ‘defence’ certainly won’t be missed. Rating: 7/10.
Dom Young - His tally of tries will tell you he’s had a great season. I think he’s been average at best. Is not too reliable in the handling department and often gets pushed back running from our own end. Lots of sideway runs that rarely amounted to anything. He’s young and will get better and needs to watch how Toops does it and learn to fight in the tackle. Would have been good to see him in space more often but it rarely seemed to happen. Rating: 6/10
Luke Keary - Some had him retired a couple of years ago. The time is now right. No longer has the speed he use to but still had the balls to take on the line despite his history of head knocks. 6.5/10
Sam Walker - Was great to see the improvement in his game and in his on field leadership. Can’t imagine how good he will be in 3 years time. His unpredictability makes him great to watch and his short kicking game is excellent. Rating: 8.5/10.
JWH - Led from the front as always. Heart and soul of the team. A shame we didn’t get to see him too often in his final year. Leaving at the right time. Rating: 7/10.
Brandon Smith - His good games were few and far between. Played limited minutes and clearly struggles with the pace of the game. Takes up a good chunk of cap but we don’t get what we pay for. Rating 5/10.
Lindsay Collins - Set the bar extremely high last season but this season has failed to live up to expectations. He seems to get smashed way too easily and too often for a man of his size. Doesn’t bend the line as often as he should seeing he’s an origin and Australian front rower. Can’t fault his effort, always gives his all. Rating: 7/10.
Angus Crichton - Was the most dominant forward in the competition. Great to see him progress so well after starting the year in reserves. Rating 9.5/10.
Sitili Tupouniua - Some energetic performances and is great when the team is going well but not so good in the difficult games. Defence is average and his hands aren’t great either. Rating: 6.5/10.
Connor Watson - Was killing it as a running forward and did very well when forced to move back to nine. A shame for him as he has so much more impact as a runner. Known as a specialist utility or Number 14 but managed to force his way into the starting side when we were at full strength. He keeps getting better. Rating: 9/10.
Victor Radley - He’s a real leader for us on field and seems to have matured a bit with his discipline. Tough man who always tries his best. Rating: 7.5/10.
Nat Butcher: He’s just there to tackle and he does that pretty well. 6.5/10.
Spencer Leniu: Great energy off the bench but seems to have much less impact as a starting player. Hopefully he can develop into this roll as he will need to. Love his controlled aggression and can’t wait to see him get even better. Rating: 7.5/10.
Terrell May - Had a fantastic breakthrough season last year so expectations from him this season were big. His stats will show he had a really good year but I don’t see too much improvement this year compared to last. He’s got good hands and barely misses a tackle. Should be our starting front rower next season. Rating: 7.5/10.
Naufahu Whyte - would have liked to have seen a little more of him. Runs hard and has good footwork at the line. He’s aggressive too. Rating: 6.5/10.
Siua Wong - Has been earmarked as a future superstar but went backwards after his debut season last year. Was hooked in Round 2 and never really recovered. Rating: 5/10.
