I don't see Forrester making grade at Easts - he seems slow and not that skillful to me.

Yeah - he's big, but so what?
Making Steve Naughton look like Vince Mellars...

Hard to say sal. I remember once Andrew johns saying something like "it's rarely seen that those who play in a certain position in lower grades, end up there for their entire career".

If he has good attributes he may end up in the backrow, or even stay in the centres. After all big, fat, slow, seems to be the main criteria for our outside backs these days.

I should put my hand up to be in the backline then.

          The dream:
          1. RTS
          2. Tagive/Oldfield
          3. Wighton
          4. SKD
          5. Moga
          6. Maloney
          7. Pearce
          8. JWH
          9. Friend
          10. Kennedy
          11. Guerra
          12. Aubusson (c)
          13. Cordner

          14. Buhrer
          15. Evans
          16. Tasi
          17. Leilua

          18. Mitchell
          19. Mortimer
          20. Symonds
          21. Masoe
          22. Arona
          23. Bosden
          24. Napa
          25. Cherro/Taka/Wells/Kherrilah/Henry/Alofa (ie best performing player left over/young gun from the then 20s)

Out - perrett, carney, anasta, FPN; in - oldfield, wighton, buhrer, maloney. Not only would those being let go provide enough cap space by themselves to fit in these new signings but we also have significant existing cap space as well.

Oldfield gives us much needed speed and depth out wide. He is out of favour at manly and they wouldnt have much room under their cap in any case particularly considering they are trying to offload ballin as well. Im a massive buhrer fan - the dream utility. He can play a glenn stuart role in the backrow and also cover hooker and halves while leilua can play an SBW/Tony Williams role off the bench and cover centres/wingers.

Evans over Masoe - bigger motor but similar impact and tasi is impossible to go past and warrants selection. The starting pack is self-explanatory as are the halves. I think Wighton would be a good pick-up with a view to making him our long-term 5/8 considering Maloney is already 26. That is his natural position and I cant help but see elements of fittler about his play - similar build, centre/backrower, debuted young etc. He would also give us a genuine ball-playing centre on the left edge and would combine brilliantly with Moga imo.

Oldfield is out of favour cos he's one of the worst and most gutless defenders to ever pull on a first grade jumper. Sure he's quick but in my opinion if Tagive can stay fit he will make a fair better winger allround. He's also susceptible to some unbelieveable brain explosions. No thanks from me. I'd prefer Josh Mansour tbh. Was one of the best 20s wingers in 2010. Was the best Souths player on the field in the grand final. He got bent over by Souths, was told he would play first grade one week early in 2011 only for Lang to go with James Roberts at the last minute. He has Perrett's commitment and workrate with a hell of a lot more speed and is a good defender too. Agree regarding Wighton as an eventual 5/8. He'll represent at some stage in that position imo but he would not make a better centre than Moga by next year. If SKD is out for an extended period with what sounds like tibial stress fractures then Moga will get the chance to show he can cut it at centre. Hopefully that means BJ is given the bench backrow spot and Tagive positioned full time on the outside of Moga. Such a shame about the service they'll get though.

I agree regarding Mansour, when watching him play in 2010 I always referred to him as the next Sam Perrett believe it or not. Similar build and when in form can be very hard to contain out of dummy half. Perrett seems to have lost that yard of pace since then though and isn't as dangerous out of dummy half. Couldn't believe he never got a run with the amount of nuffies that played in the souths backline last year. Hopfully Mansour is kept quite this weekend though.

Perret must not be resigned because we need Henry, Tagive, Rona to play

It's a bit far away to pick a team for 2014 due to where our playing roster is at with youngsters. I will say that Widdop would be a player I'd be watching if RTS doesn't kick on over the next 18 months. Similarly, if Friend doesn't improve from where he is at like some are saying, then Rein would be an interesting player to consider.

I saw him during the semis & GF, I cant believe the guy never got graded to FG, he was running around for Norths. From what I saw of him in those 3 games was unbelievable. It just surprises me Yak that you had also seen him & rate him.
