So with all this young talent coming up, and our outside backs and forwards looking like a scramble of youth and possibility, i decided to think of my own, premiership winning team of 2014
1. RTS - with mini retiring or leaving at the end of 2013, id like to see sheckers blooded in for a few games in the back end of 2013, or even in the nsw cup, before officially beginnig his pro career with the roosters at fullback in 2014.
2. Ive honestly thought long and hard about this wing, but its a bit of a mash up between Leilua, Carney and Rokalati has been thrown around a bit. then there is daniel tupou, and adam henry and even curtis rona for that matter.
3. Tautau Moga - with him being blooded in FG this year, and with some definite, if not permanent game time in the side in 2013, i think moga will have a long and successful career with the roosters in the no. 3 jersey.
4. SKD - skids has been loyal enough to the club (and weve been loyal to him) and im encouraged by what he can do with a decent playmaker. he flourished with carney, but is sinking with anasta, but thats for another thread.
5. Tagive - the wingers were hard to pick, however i belive pez is on the way out, and i reckon next year could be his last with the club. i saw tagive play for the dragons in the charity shield in 2011, and liked him ever since. not just because he played one good game for the roosters against the knights.
6. Maloney - speaks for himself, anything to get that money stealing cap rotter out of the eastern suburbs.
7. Pearce (vc) - also speaks for himself, many believe he is over-rated, i believe its simply because hes just been overshadowed by the likes of thurston and cronk. hes a leader and it seems like hes been around forever but hell have 150 FG games under his belt by 2014, and he'll only be 24.
8. JWH - the hard man of the team, supposed leader of this new and up coming attack. i like him and stoked with the fact he resigned. theres just that something about him that makes you love him if hes at your club but hate him if hes at another club.
9. Friend - has his hot and cold patches, yet when hes in a form slump, he still makes 40+ tackles a game, and if we have maloney, pearce and morts (see below) in the squad, i doubt we'll need him in attack.
10. Kennedy - had a good game in i believe round 4 2011 vs the tigers, then all of a sudden he was queenslands next prop sensation, then died off a bit. i want to see him return to that form and i believe a year or two starting in the front row will only reap the rewards.
11. Takraingi - taka the man mountain seemed to grow between the game agaisnt the dragons and the game against the warriors, he plays feleti mateo style, but he isnt as stupid, or over rated.
12. Aubusson (c) - i like this bloke. Even in his ball hog days in 2007 and 2008 at centre, he really matured, and he became a ball running back-rower, who knows how to break the line, at speed. very underrated, and a future club legend.
13. Cordner - big bad boyd has a massive future at the club, and i reckon the captaincy will come his way too. he needs time to develop, and he will start to hit his straps in 2014, with a bit of game time and experience under his belt.
14. Evans - we have some great young forwards coming through, and this guy looks a great prospect. he impressed me with his game in u20's sooa and even though it is u20's, he is hard to bring down.
15. Napa - not a fan of rangas (symonds, ben jones, shackleton) but this guy looks the goods as well. also impressed in the u20's soo.
16. Guerra - theres something about guerilla, when he has a good game, everyone notices, but when he has a quiet, or even an off game, no one really tends to notice, or care. ill leave it at that. but i think hes an impact bench player at best.
17. Mortimer - i doubted him when he first signed late last year, but inexperience cost him in 2009 and he paid the price in the years to follow. he allows us to utilise our backs in a way so that no injury will go un-covered.
the rest:
if youre still reading, THANKS! i really put some effort into this and im really encouraged by our up and coming stars and i guess we have peter o'sullivan to thank for it.
the next 10 or so years is looking good. red white and blue, through and through
